Man opens fire on SWAT team, lives to tell the tale...

Minn. man shoots cops after SWAT team kicks down wrong door

"A Minneapolis police SWAT team kicked in the wrong door yesterday during an early morning raid, prompting the man of the house to grab his gun and open fire on the officers who entered the house.

"He took out his shotgun and he said if they are bad guys I'll shoot, I'll scare them away," Dao Khang, the brother of the homeowner, Vang Khang, tells the Star Tribune. "He fired first, he told me it was two shots."

Dao Khang says his brother was trying to protect his wife and six children. No one from the family was hit during the exchange of gunfire. Vang hit two officers, but the Pioneer Press says they were protected by ballistic vests and helmets.

"I must've heard over 20 or 30 shots, I swear, it was scary," Ruth Hayes, the family's next-door neighbor, tells WCCO-TV. "It was like 30 SWAT guys out here ... it was crazy it was just like havoc."

KARE-TV reports that Vang was detained at the scene and released a few hours later. Police say there may have been a "language barrier" between the residents and the officers.

"It was some bad information that was received on the front end that kind-of trickled all the way through," police Sgt. Jesse Garcia tells the station. "It's unfortunate because we have officers that were hit by gunfire and this truly, truly could have been a much worse situation."

Police haven't decided whether they'll try to charge Khang with a crime. KMSP-TV says the Khang family is consulting with a civil attorney."

He's not the first person to have this happen: http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2006/11/92yearold_woman.html

No. The 'unfortunate' thing, is that every household in the U.S is at a much higher level of risk now that we have given up our freedom to a rat-pack of tyrants. The day my door is kicked in, and my family is threatened due to some 'bad information' that 'kind-of trickled'....well, let's just say that they couldnt dig the holes and bulid the boxes fast enough!

Good for him.
I'd shoot someone who busted into my place. Especially if I see black masks etc. Crooks and cops use the same gear.

He didnt see much of anything when he fired one warning shot before they got upstairs and the next two shots he fired thru the closed door of the room he and some of his family were hiding in. He hit two officers in the vests and seven officers started unloading their clips randomly into the walls and door. They hit nothing fortunately.

"It's lucky the police didn't shoot at the restroom because the elder sister grabbed the younger brothers (and hid in the restroom)," Xang Vang said.

The idiot cops are blaming the incident on bad informant info. rather on their own sloppy detective work.

Heres some decent vids of the news coverage. If I can find the one where they invite the press to film inside the house to show how many bullet holes fill all the walls, doors, and windows I will. Looked like something out of a Lethal Weapon movie.

The first.

It was a Hmong family [ SE Asian rural people ] with six kids. Six is considered a starter family. They also dont seem to mind putting 3-4 families in one house. They are also notoriously short which would explain why the police didnt hit anything if they were aiming for taller folk.

This is very true. Our CIA recruited quite a few Hmong to fight our 'shadow wars' in Cambodia and all throughout SouthEast Asia. There are still old Hmong veterans who hideout (with their vast families) in the mountains, while the governments in SEAsia still hunt them down. These guys consider themselves "American soldiers".

They are world-famous for their aggression and fighting nature.

BTW- if you watch all the video links that Verite put up, it will clear up a lot of questions (or let you see the inconsistencies in both sides of the story).

Man they should sue the shit out of that police department for damages and psychological trauma.

One would think so.

from above:

Unbelieveable. :joint:

No, wait! The police and our government are here to help, right?

It's stories like these that make me weep for this country.

If you check the USA TODAY web page, you'll find this story linked to the article. Even more insane:

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2006/11/92yearold_woman.html

92-year-old woman dies in shootout with police

Kathryn Johnston, 92, died in a shootout with police Tuesday night after she shot three narcotics officers trying to execute a warrant at her Atlanta residence, according to reports.

"A neighbor, Yolanda Jackson, 42, said she was sitting on the front porch of her home on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard a block away when undercover narcotics officers, who were not in street uniforms, showed up around 7 p.m. to serve a search warrant at Johnston's home, at 933 Neal St," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. "I heard 'pow, pow, pow, pow. A whole lot of gunfire, really fast."

Jackson said she heard 16-24 shots, and said about 20 police cars were on the scene within five minutes.

"She opened fire on the officers. The officers returned fire, struck and killed her,” a police spokesman told WXIA-TV.

The woman's relatives, convinced police made a mistake, were distraught. “They done the wrong house,” her niece told WXIA. “And they killed her! This lady lived to be 92. She lived to be 92 and in good health. They went in there and she was scared to death.”

Update at 11:26 a.m. ET: "Authorities say they received a tip of drug activity taking place at the home and officers were headed to the house with a search warrant," according to WSB-TV.

Jeez, what a country. If I ever move back to the US, it will be with a personal Ghurka bodyguard.

That just makes me sick. It was a long term investigation and the "bad" information trickled down. Well what the **** were they investigating if the bad info trickle down?

Rosy, that Atlanta story is old FYI. SOme of the crooks involved in that have plead out. It also turned up some major issues in the department as to how they obtained warrants and the sources used.

My next house is going to be a compound.

they haven't decided whether to charge him??????

why don't they decide how to charge the officers leading the unit and in charge of the intelligence and investigation for endangering the welfare of citizens, attempted murder, breaking and entering, etc.

its unfortunate that the enforcers of the law are above it.

who's the real danger to society? someone with guns in their house? or the cops who run in guns blazin with a shoot first, ask questions later mentality???

Police haven't decided whether they'll try to charge Khang with a crime.
**** them they got exactly what they deserved. This is what happens when you go breaking into peoples homes all commando style and shit. The cops should charge themselves with a crime.

The family probably has a lawyer already and will have their day in court. The cops screwed up and they know its going to cost them a lawsuit. They wont admit their informant is just another criminal that got popped for something else or that they didnt do any follow up detective work to verify their information. Seems 15 minutes of surveillance would have seen one of the six kids or the parents or one of 200,000 relatives that live nearby.
