there is no real apparent difference between a male or a female plant, They both look the same in terms of branches, leaves, height, etc.
what is different are the flowers.
a male has these ball shapped flowers that pop open when ripe and a yellow powder spills out, this is the pollen.
you must look out for this and then you wll know that it is a male.

a female has these white hairs like protrusions that start to grow from the base of the leaves at the nodes.
this is a female plant at 42 days.

this is a male plant at 51 days.

So you can see that they both look very similar.

I agree mate,
Although i have noticed everytime i pull a male, that male plant almost always seems bigger, stronger, and more dominant in the garden than the females in pre-flower...its just my observation over time that i think the makles are more...whats the word...robust? larger? taller? maybe its just me, but i have noticed all my males have been more colorfull, larger, and taller than the females of their species of what ever i happen to be growing at the time...in NO way should you use this as a guage to pick and cull males as im sure there are female plants that have loomed in size in comparison to some males, its just i havent seen that yet..

the most assured way to tell is to wait for either pistils on the female plants (pre-flowers) or alternativly you will see balls in a sack like a bunch of bannanas that look like a bettle spreading its wings before pollen gets released.

Those pics Ronley posted are good, should give you a clear idea of what to look for :joint:

Here's some pre-flower pics...white V = female..extended stem calyx and raised clusters(aka nanners, balls, etc.) = Male. Males usually show sex before females.. :2cents:
