So for starters, it's dangerous buying weed in Malaysia. The police offer rewards for information that can lead them to a big bribe, so there's a fair chance you'll get stung. The government treat cannabis as seriously as heroin and mandatory sentences are brutal (the ratten cane is used to damage the spine before you go into jail - you'll have a limp for the rest of your life at best). So it's no joke.
But more importantly, there is a problem with deliberate contamination of the brick weed you get here. There's a batch going around now which looks green, smells ok (for brick weed), but is laced with the left overs from other drugs that the scummy dealers sell. They seem to soak it in a mix of whatever powders were left over from other deals, which includes meth amphetamine, heroin, ketamine and random uppers and downers. The Reggae bar in Chinatown of KL is famous for selling this and they are in league with the police. There have been a few tourists who went to smoke a joint with some kids and have ended up passed out in the drains around the city - only to be later arrested and forced to bribe their way out of trouble (approx 1000-2000 USD usually).
I've quit smoking while i'm here because of this, but anyone travelling here should be made aware of the situation. There is no convincing the government that they are wrong and simply questioning the system can have you locked up without trial (under their terrorism laws - which they use to arrest any dissenters).
So be careful. Or just avoid Malaysia if you can't do without a smoke.
