After reading on the Cob Cured thread I became interested in trying to grow the Malawi. I am already dreaming of smoking a perfectly cured Cob of my own

I have looked thru a bunch of threads and haven't seen anything like a sticky on growing them in a cabinet on a small personal scale.

I see information on various light cycles, a few older posts with nutrient issues.

I ordered ACE seeds recently. Assuming all goes well I will have
Malawi and Zamaldelica seeds to play with.

With limited space I was going to start with 1 breed.

The malawi first

I germinate seeds in r/o water w dash of Kelp and humic. Immersed over night. Placed in damp paper towel in Plastic bag. Into my clone box where its nice n warm. Into small cup of Coco Coir moistened with Kelp /Humic water.

I run LED
use NFTG nutrients
CO2 system
Hand Watering in Coco coir.

This works for me so far.

Starting with 5 feminized seeds as they had no Regular.
First time with Feminized seeds.

What else should I be prepared for? Other then an extended growth cycle?

All specific hints are appreciated

Thanks in Advance!

Check inbox. Malawi has a high female ratio anyways, I forgot what he said about the fems but you'll land a pheno you can't get with the standard..

How's it going?
Wish you the best of luck!
Saw the cob-thread yesterday, interesting stuff there.

My next grow will also be malawi :) in coco too.

I am waiting a little bit longer. I am finishing up a run now. I know it will take a long time to fully flower the Malawai. I am going to start them when I get back from my summer getaway.

Still having good success in Coco, thinking of mixing it up with a Bubble bucket. Ill probably try it with both methods.

My first cobb is a couple months aged and it's very cool. Different Taste, Different High.
Its really very interesting.

I will have to wait to start my malawis too, until i get back from the holidays this summer.
But this is cool! We can do a coco malawi grow side-by-side, comparing growroom details, feedings etc.

The native and landrace plants of malawi can take like 20 weeks to flower, and i emailed Ace about this and they answered sum' like: The ace malawi will in general finish flowering at the number of weeks they've written (think it is 11?), depending on phenotype 1+ or 1- weeks. Its still a pure malawi, just a shorter flowering genotype.

As for the cobbs i would LOVE to try it, but dont have a vacum sealer and wont be able to afford one in the nearest future.

Anyways, talk to you later when its getting closer to sowing the beans, peace!

If you want to replicate the vacuum sealer, you can put cobb in a sealable baggie dip it in a water bath, obviously with zip up top. The water will push out the air. Then seal it up.

A bit of a gorilla tactic, but I think if you sweat it properly all you have to do is cut off air supply. I doubt they had vacuum packers in Africa when they came up with this. I think they buried them.

I have access to an industrial grade vacuum sealer. I was able to continue to pull a full vacuum for nearly a minute. It got the full compression of 1 atmosphere.

It came out more dense. That's the only difference I could see. Compared to the cobb pics posted.

I am thinking of making a silly strong mushroom tea and lacing a cobb with it. Or some variation of that.

You couldn't have picked a more potent strain to grow:biggrin: I have some Malawi fems on the way. I just popped some crosses, the Malawi x Black Lime Reserve is the most potent herb I've smoked in over 50 years of looking:tiphat::
OJSDKB X Malawi X Black Lime Reserve
Romulan Haze X Malawi X Black Lime Reserve
Malawi X Black Lime Reserve
Lemon Thai X Empress OG X Malawi

Haha thats some gorilla tactic :D i guess it would work but i would be damn nervous dipping my weedbags in water. Pray that they are air-tight.

Maybe fill a bucket of fine sand and bury the cobbs in there? Or if someone have a huge harvest trying to actually bury it in the garden, maybe cover the cobb in a few newspapers first. Real africano-style.

Well my indoor harvest aint big enough for taking that kind of risk, but maybe some outdoorgrown autos could be subjects of experiment this autumn?

Good day.

Hello stoned40yrs: only heard the best about malawi :) everyone tried it says the same - straight killer weed!
Would love going to africa and smoke some of the real sun-grown spiritual herb everyone is praising so much.

Hey man! How's it going? :)
I have been vegging mine for about a month now, switched to flower yesterday.
Going very easy on the nutes, got a nice lime-green color.
Did you start?

Funny you should ask. I had a strange year, back on track.
I just popped 2 fem Malawi a few days ago. They broke ground and are sitting in my Flower Box with a round of Panama I started about a month ago.

Im trying to keep them smallish to fit in my setup. Im not Vegging at all, 12/12 from start.

I have access to a professional vacuum sealer and 3 mil bags. I cook Lamb Shanks sealed in these bags for 2 days at 130 degrees get medium rare yet falling off the bone tender. They don't rip unless I fuck up the seal

I can go up to 185 degrees and stay within a 1/10 of a degree variation for weeks.
So I thought I might be able to find the perfect temp to sweat the cobs at. But that is just fun thoughts

Hi my friend I would be very interested in your results, the Malawi cured this way would be a true African experience. Please post pics of the finished product. Good luck with the grow.

Ok, cool! I hear lots of people dont veg their malawi. But i decided to veg so i could top and LST a bit, increase yield that way. When i know the gender of my plants i'll put on a screen to reduce height.

Super nice with the cob cure! Have you tried any yet?
My last crop got a great cure, ive always had difficulties with the cure. This time i tried to press as many buds as possible in the jar, this reaaally improved smell! :)

I Fim'ed my Pananmas that I went 12/12 and next some training when I cull down to 2 plants.
My box does best with 1 or 2 plants. I have 2 Boxes about the same size.

I am going to tame the wild Malawi somehow. Kind of practicing on the Panama. Im told it's less finicky to grow so I can learn about controlling the stretch on an easier plant. And get Awesome smoke.

If you have room I would veg it out and get the max volume of buds.
Holy Smokes these things can get to be monstrous.

I literally grow for myself. No one else knows. I already have more then enough to smoke for a long time.Im into trying to grow the more unique plants now that I have a couple grows under my belt.

the cure has been a challenge for me, Agreed filling the container is good. I think it slows down the process. Less air to draw out the water. Once I get them into CV vaults with the Bovida packs im good. The hanging and drying thing im getting better at.

Looking good! :)
My malawis are reacting very slowly to the 12/12 switch. Switched 2 weeks ago and they're barely showing pre-flower!
Anyway, out of my 4 seedlings 2 were female, wich is perfect. Just like you i dont have room for more.
Also feeding lightly, usually at 500 ppm.
Good luck!
