Malawi Mites

First timer to the infirmary for me....very sad. I discovered spider mites this AM on my Malawi Gold. The plant is at day 100 flowering about 2 weeks to go. Very infested! I have grown a dozen or so other strains and have never seen a mite. Thought this image might help others. Changed the title as the mites are not Malawi mites they are the spotted little bastards from hell...sorry Afropip......

Thats one heavy infestation, sucks because theres no smoking that bud now. I have tried to remove the webbing and sample but it all tastes like shit. Oil or bubble would be the only options I would use other than tossing it out.

Verite...that's just about what my wife said "just yank it" well I got more time and energy into this one plant than any other I've grown. You really think it is junk? What about tea? Shitty tea? Thanks for the reply Dr. Duck...

Take the plants into the shower and wash both the underside and top of the leaves. Repeat several times over the period of two weeks.

Use a garden hose instead of the shower if this is outdoors...

Imo with it 100 days into flower and a couple weeks left showering the shizz outta them is only going to damage the buds and maybe clean up the mites from being dusty. With that much webbing going on you gotta wonder how much can they do better in two weeks. If you have many others in the same room then you risk that much further exposure not to mention that showering will probably make them want to migrate to a dryer climate when they get the chance.

I have tried a variety of methods to remove webbing and smoke the bud but its always had remenants on it and tasted like crap so even preservation at this point is questionable.

Just to let you know I had this happen once and as much as I hated to do it I did a Prythiem bomb (and cleared all the webs I could by hand and ripped all the bad leaves off) and let it go 3 more days then cut it down it had no bad taiste, I wouldn't rec. water did that once and it really killed the THC ) bad I mean you could see it in the water the lovley thc (wipes a tear)

I bombed the room, sprayed the plant with water....checked today and the mites are still alive....but less of them..... So I bombed again today.....hours later...the mites are still alive....so sad...I yanked my Malawi Gold. A 140 day project plucked before its time. It was close though. If there happens to be a smoke report I'll post it in my thread in the Afropips forum......sure smelled sweet...there will be no PoTM.....so I'm bombing the room three more times at about 1 week intervals before starting over. I may boil up a couple big jugs of water to help sterilize the soil. It has been in the 90s-100s hear for about a month and I usually don't grow indoors in the summer so this is my lesson for today...these are the spotted little bastards not Malawi mites as I called them...sorry Pips.....Dr. Duck.

Hey crop manager...it was seeds from Afropips Seeds and I'm pretty sure they had nothing to do with my infestation. I'm partially at fault besause I didn't recognise the early signs of the little buggers. Anyway on to a sterile enviroment. Dr. Duck

I pray it does not happen again for you but if you are going to use chems the vapona strips are easier on your plants an lungs. Mites will go dormant now. I would fire my bulbs to 20 hour cycle (mites will go dormant quicker with lower hours of light) put some of their favorite food in there then use a fumigant in there.Do this and then you might be able to control the next infestation.If you live in the south I would seal my room in plastic. JK

Sorry Verite...I had to do what I had to do! I also said "IF" there is a smoke report. Well I wouldn't insult Afropips with such a report now but it is sure sweet smelling. I am curring it now. I might offer a high report...as to the high I get off the mite bombs....he hee hee.....and Jalisco Kid thanks I am turning the lights off for two weeks...then.....starting over Dr. Duck.

there was a member on here that always recommended taking the hottest peppers you can find, and boil them into a concauction. spray over your buds, and drench it in your soil. whoever it was said not a damn thing happens to your plants or weed, just kills the nasties...think of it as potent homade hot wax or whatever that thing is called. i will def give it a shot, but i think you should try it sometime if your problem is that bad.
