Making seeds with a degenerated female clone

Hiya

My friend is holding a clone of my ST#3 that I grew out of seed two and a half years ago. The plant has been constantly cloned so that there has been no single mother. It has been kept alive by taking clones from the previous generation before putting them to flower. This has been repeated until this day so the clone my friend has today must be at least 10th generation.

My friend told me that the plant is very freaky looking and has a weird growth pattern and decreased yield now. I haven't seen the plant myself because the friend lives in a different city so I don't know how bad it is. This makes me sad because I have no ST#3 seeds left and it was my favorite strain for a long time. I'd really like to preserve at least some of the genes but I don't think I want to grow that weirdo clone anymore. I was thinking about crossing it with a male from some other strain. Will the seeds that come from the clone be any good?

As John already pointed out,you can buy SWT#3 seconds over at Seeds Direct at a bargain price. You can also buy the original SWT#3 or the new SWT#1.1 at Legend's Seed Brokerage from Red.You might even find some F2 or crosses on Seedbay or C-Bay.
You could try selfing the clone you have but there's no gurantee that the seeds will be any better than the motherplant they came from.

Yes I've been thinking about buying more ST (maybe the 1.1) seeds sometime but I got some other strains on the line first. I just wanted to know if the plants grown from the seeds made with this clone will be healthy. They don't have to be pure ST#3. Actually I was thinking about crossing it with ECSD V3 since I got a pack of those and will grow them out next.

JLP: What I understand from your post is that the seeds will be ok and the clone's loss of vigour doesn't effect the offspring. Am I right?

When you self a clone you want to use the healthiest, most stable clone you can find.It doesn't sound like you have a very good canidate. You can self it,but the seeds will most likely reflect the seedmother it came from.

You might wanna just spray some fungicide on the clone... its probably the problem.

JLP: I just want to do a simple cross since I'm not experienced in seed making. I've made seeds only once before and it was years ago. I want to keep it simple and don't want to use selfing or some other more advanced methods. The idea was to do a simple ST#3 x ECSD V3 or cross it with some other strain. I have no intention to cross it further. Otherwise the clone was very good: lots of resin, euphoric high and the sweetest candy tasting and smelling bud I've ever had. This loss of vigour is the only bad thing about this clone. Would it be total waste of time to make seeds and then grow them out in hope of finding some decent plants in the offspring?

Yeah,it's worth a shot.If your crossing in new genetics that would be a big help.
