Making my own shrimp meal

I live in South Africa where any type of crustacean meal fertilizer isn't available anywhere

So I'm left with the option of having to try make my own... I'd like to know how possible this is.

I want to make my own shrimp meal as shrimp is cheaper than getting crab in these parts. How would I make it? Is it ok to use shrimp shells that have already been cooked?

Do I then just dry out the shells in the sun, ground them up and then add them to my soil mix?

I dont know, but it is an interesting idea.

I am thinking of doing shrimp n crab ground up
And mixed w bokashi for fermentation then I was going to mix it into a batch of mulch.
I was going to also add seaweed.

Zero knowledge that this will work. But its what I
Plan to try.

If you got an asian market or supermarket in your area you can buy dehydrated shrimps there, they aren't pasteurized.

Ive composted crabs before and then used the compost to feed my worms then used that in the garden. Takes a while for crabs to break down but shrimp should be faster I would think. I was thinking about making meal but the amount of funky dust youd inhale would be unbearable. When I use crustacean meal in my mixes my hands stink for the next day. Good luck and let us know what you do and how it turns out.

Never do it... but i will cook shrimps first then use meat mincing machine to ground them
good and later live this grounded meat on some cheesecloth on a sun to get bone dry...

then inside coffie ground machine to bust this bits in dust... and there you have
your own personal shrimp meal.

Or you use internet and get Antartic Krill meal that i buying for grow..

That is sort of how Nature does it.

Cooked shells will usually just break down faster.

Reducing particle size also helps compost feedstock break down faster. i.e. grinding them up.

I would try to keep it aerobic because if it gets an-aerobic (soggy as opposed to moist) it will probably stink, and not a good stink.

The better question is what do you have local to you as a replacement for crustacean meal?

There isn't a replacement for crustacean meal this side available for agricultural purposes. You can't even get insect frass. There isn't a single chitin containing product available on any shelf here. Baffles me as the agriculture industry is huge here

They use waste products to make this stuff. Tryand find a seafood processing plant or for smaller quantities, a fish market or grocery store and ask around t o see if you can collect some waste. Some parts are sold for animal food. You can so male hydrolysate- there is a method floating around online ifyou google.
