There are many ways. A good beginners way is to get a pollen box. Look for it at your local headshop or google it. It's a small box with a screen in it. You gring up your pot really good and dump it in. Now sift it with some kind of tool( I use a spoon) for about half an hour, maybe longer. You should end up with a nice layer of kief on the collecting plate below. Use as if or press it into hash. Peace.
the proper way to get pure keif is to break up the buds trying to to handle them that much. Make sure it really dry pot. Add you pot to the silk screen and lightly shake back and forth so the material rolls back and forth on the screen getting mostly resin glands. If you break it up really fine you smoking way more plant material then u should. U can get higher with a pure'r mix
scorpio..i'm gonna make this real simple for you
1. get a 40 oz. plastic soda cup
2. a pair of pantyhose
3. your weed , budshake or frosty leaf material ...placed in the freezer for ten minutes
4. insert weed into cup
5. toss in a few coins, like 2-3 quarters
6. top with a few layers of panty hose, secured by a rubberband
7. gently shake over a nice mirror untill yuo have a nice pile of kief
8. scrape kief into a piece of notebook paper and compress for a few mintues in your
palm or under your heel..a little heat will help this process
9. open paper and scrape off the stuff with a razor blade , roll into a ball and smoke it
....very simple and potent

If you have a crock pot butter is the way to go IMO. You can use any amount of butter really, but the higher the ratio of plant matter to butter, the more potent your stuff will be. And of course buds and budleaf make for the best hash/butter.
1. Add butter, water, and plant matter (this includes fans and males) to the crock pot.
2. Set heat to low
3. Stir well
4. Wait 24 hours
5. Strain your water/butter liquid into a bowl
6. Place bowl in fridge
7. Wait a few hours, butter will rise to top of water
8. Skim butter off of top of water
9. BAM! you have canna butter
PS. I reccomend adding peanut butter to the brownie mix, masks the taste of herb VERY well.
