making cannabutter with water hash

I have never tried to make cannabutter before. I am planning a giving it a try. I got 10 grams of water hash (unpressed) and have a couple of questions about the whole process.

1) I don't know how much butter to use with the 10 grams
2) Can I just add it to the butter and boil it on a low temp (how long?), then let it cool?

I don't think I will have to strain it because the water hash process already did that. I am not sure. Anyone with experience?

Thanks in advance.

1. Not a clue, what's a dose for me may not be a dose for you. I tend to approach this sort of stuff with the attitude that I'm going to completely saturate my solvent. I have zero experience with bubble/water hash but I've used dry sift in both butter & oil before. Two issues with processing hash with butter, #1 it'll tend to clump up and not distribute evenly, #2 it can plunk right to the bottom and scorch. I'd start 10g with a minimum of a cup of butter, maybe two.

2. Yes. In fact if you have a crock pot it's great for this sort of thing. Keeping temps low & avoiding scorch areas on a stove can be very challenging, esp when you can buy yourself a nice 2qt crock pot for around the same you'd pay for a buger & fries. If you're set on the stove I'd advise something like a HEAVY cast iron skillet or pot, they tend to distribute low heat very evenly.

3. You'll have to strain it a little bit, not everything in the hash is going to completely dissolve in the butter, but there will be minimal cleanup and if you don't mind the occasional bit in the butter you don't really have to strain, it's just nicer that way.

1. My rule of thumb for determining how much butter to add is this: Estimate how many times your weed (or hash in this case) will get you high, then divide that by four. That's how many teaspoons of butter you need (in other words, one-quarter teaspoon of finished cannabutter will be your end dosage). So if one gram of hash will get you high, say, 20 times, use five teaspoons of butter. This is for high-potency butter, so use caution if you intend to make baked goods with it. I just don't like the idea of eating like a tablespoon of butter to get high.

2. I would finely pulverize the water hash, toast it lightly in a saucepan to decarboxylate, add the butter to coat evenly, add a cup of water, then simmer so it's barely bubbling for 30 minutes to an hour. If you are not using water, then do not let the butter boil, since the temperature would be too high in that case.

3. Straining is unnecessary in my opinion if using hash.

If you've never made cannabutter before, you might want to do a test run first with just one gram of hash and adjust for potency the next time around.

That is a great idea. Small amounts first, I don't want to get too baked.

I am going to try to make some this weekend, we will see.

Personally my cannabutter experience has been with bud, trim and shake....however I have had great experience recently :yay:. From my experience I would still recommend using the water medium. If you read up on the process of making cannabutter here on the forums it starts by boiling water, adding your butter, then adding your canna-product. Allow to cool in a large container in the fridge, when cool the butter and water separate, pour out the water and you'll have yourself some grade A cannabutter :yummy:
