Mainstream media - vomitfest

What's a good source for the news without the sensationalism and pointless stories but is also a source for good reporting?

Im just sick of mainstream media - here's the latest CNN.com headlines:

# White House: Bin Laden wanted Iraq as a new base
# Guest worker plan survives vote
# Snipers fire on fleeing refugees
# Fire victims had time for 1 breath, chief says
# Coyote attacks 5-year-old boy playing in yard
# Student at Falwell's university arrested with bombs
# Baby burned in microwave leaves hospital
# WFTV: Thieves need 1 minute to grab ATM
# 'American Idol' finale divides judges
# London honors one word: Plastics
# Who's the daddy? Identical twins both test yes
# Jessica Alba reveals rebellious side

FOXNews.com:
* Deal Near to Fund Wars Without Withdrawal
* Doctor Accused of Dealing Killer Pain Drugs
* Cops Probe Grisly Murders of SoCal Family
* Refugees Flee Lebanon Gunbattle | PHOTOS
* Russian Charged in Ex-Spy's Poisoning
* Husband of Missing Mom Denied Custody
* Immigration Bill Passes Guest Worker Test- 100 Suspected Illegals Nabbed in Missouri
* Golfer Dies When Cart Plunges Off Cliff

msnbc.com:
Refugees flee Lebanon fighting
WP: New Iraq strategy focuses on ousting bad actors
WP: Birth control crackdown sparks riots in China
FDA OKs first pill that halts periods
WP: McCain turns focus to his fundraising
‘Dancing With The Stars’ champ is ...

Not that I read these news sites, but this is the major media and what they're reporting to the American public.

I mean, who the fuck cares about most of this shit?!

I mainly get my news from news.google.com but am looking into other sources

I sort out what I want to read from FARK.COM

I'll tell you what though, we both know that the news will be nothing more of the same old.

Muslims killing, enslaving, raping and pillaging the middle east and N.Africa in the name of Allah. Africans killing each other for resources. Europeans and N.Americans consuming everything in sight. China plotting and planning world conquest. Iran trying to steal the limelight away from the Sunnis. Russia struggling to stay alive. Some white bitch kidnapped/missing/flashing her cunt.

I'm really big into politics and news, but after 6 years now of reading the news everyday, I see little reason to anymore. I can't be content spending my time reading about how fucked up the world is and how little progress is being made, when I already know what I have to do to make it better.

[edit] My solution to the worlds problems has to remain separate from any connection with drugs, so I'll leave out what I'm in progress of doing. One of those "muahha, I'll take over the world, muahhhah" kinda things.

Mr. Nevermind

The news is soo bad nowadays. Its to the point of morbid. All they want to see is people die. It makes me laugh when they interrupt a story to talk about a plane with landing gear problems. they will get a live feed of the plane flying around and they wait for it to land and blow up. When the plane lands safe it seems the news people are almost upset about it, hoping to see some blood. and that is fucking sad.

May as well not call it the news , but call it the bad news . Since thats al they ike to report on. No wonder we al think our country is going to the shitter, if you watch the news a you here is how many died, what fire or earthquake fucked up what city and terorists. Its aways more juicy to here about the 19 people that died in a crash , then to talk about the 10 billion that made it home safe that night.

Im personally tired of news programs talkng about Paris Hilton , Anna Nicoe Smith, LIndsay Lohan and what star is fucking who. Its not news and those people are hardly newsworthy. I want to here news that could effect my day and ike, not what club paris got drunk at or what star was caught in a sex tape, who the fuck cares

Heres something I noticed last night that confirmed my suspicions. Mainstream news media is being digested by the consumers (this isnt the part I noticed). But the consumers are the ones wanting to read about it (as unprofound as that sounds, it confirms my suspcisions that people really ARE interested in the bullshit fluff articles that mainstream media churns out daily)

Here's what made me realize it-- the top 100 search terms on google for yesterday (when I posted the original post for this thread):

So basically, it sort of shows where interests with people lie and gives a good idea as to why mainstream media writes mainly about seemingly trivial bullshit like how cute panda bears are and how many bull testicles some douchebag in Montana can stuff in his mouth at one time.

(BTW- how the fuck did 42 and 49 get in there?)

[/QUOTE]6. nba draft
Well I guess I'm one of those people you would hate cuz the I was one of the people who googled nba draft. (maybe it wasn't yesterday but def this week).

So tell me what you would report about if you had a news channel because I don't see anything wrong with the news stories you wrote down.

I don't hate people into sports. Im into a few sports... mainly disc golf and some boxing. I do find it disturbing when people have a serious preoccupation with sports. Like live-their-life-for-non-participatory-spectator-sports, hanging out at sports bars, memorizing arcane statistics about players type people.

If it were me reporting, I would probably clone my reporting after infowars.com, adbusters.org, digg.com, BBC.co.uk, and probably pull in a bunch of my webpage designs and request web page design from people at artcrimes.org and graffitiresearchlab.com

Being as we are under wartime censorship, you would be
very limited on the infowars.com type of stories you could
run.Remember,as george has pointed out so often, anything against the bush admin is in support of
"terrorism".
Alex Jones gets away with it because the gov'ment has most "intelligent thinking" folks thinking that he's a crackpot conspiracy theorists not worth listening to.Jones also has more Americans supporting him than most of our presidential candidates combined.
Basically, mainstream media is a very good propaganda machine(Bin Laden's base in Iraq in example)that sucks up ad dollars while spoon feeding us a little real news occasionally amongst all of the celebrity stuff that soap opera addicts and reality show freaks love to hear.
My recent favorite propaganda story on our local news is about how,in spite of high gas prices, suv sales are up. "More Americans will travel this holiday season than ever before".Which is all a bunch of horse hockey.I've had to travel the interstates alot over the last couple of months and they were deserted as compared to what I'm used to seeing.I just returned from a trip a few minutes ago and it was the same.I pretty much had 30 miles of 4 lane hiaway to myself on one my states most traveled.
Oh,except for the umpteen state troopers pulling all of the truckers over.We just had a trucker busted with 1600 lbs of herb on monday.
http://beta.abc3340.com/news/stories/0507/425310.html
I'd hate to know I was a trucker with a route through this place.I'd also hate to know that I still had to buy herb from B'ham.
Peace

Two people here think DRUDGE is a good news source?

Care to elaborate?

BBC is good, agreed.

Any news source is useful - the people who can't scrutinize/filter/interpret information on their own (regardless of source) don't pay attention to the news in the first place. Those that can seek sources that present events through a lens similar to their own. I like rawstory.com.
