Magazine salesmen.. Undercover cops?

Well I want a little imput on this as seeing it sketched me out. A couple months ago me and some friends were just sitting around and some "magazine salesman" came up to us acting really odd and asked if we knew where to get some bud and of course we all said "no, we don't smoke blah blah" and we also asked if he was an undercover cop and he said "no no no no man, ect" and then walked off acting all shady. Now today some guy came up knocking on my door and asked if I wanted to buy some magazines and me trying to be nice I decided to go ahead and see what he was selling and act like I'm interested then make up some excuse on not paying for it. After showing me what magazines he had and everything he was like "so man what do you do for fun.." then I said "music, computers, ect" and he asked "um... I have a question for you.. Are you 420 friendly?" and of course I knew what he meant but acted like I had no clue. I told him that I used to smoke but I quit a long time ago. He walked off then asked "well since you said you used to smoke, could you hook me up mabye?" and I said I don't know anybody.

Does this seem suspicious to you at all, or just do all magazine salesmen smoke.

Yes it does seem a little suspicious to me...happening twice like that. Perhaps those magazine salesmen do all smoke though...I know if I were one I'd wanna smoke all day, that job must suck!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's some kind of police related thing.. This guy was dressed like a wigger but talked like a typical American and was overly nice. But have any of you ever heard of cops doing this? I wouldn't be as sketched out if they didn't act so strange about it.. I don't know why they would be targeting me, I don't sell or grow. I guess mabye they want me to take them to a dealer's house or something to bust some bigger fish.

I am not sure if that was a cop or not, but just to let you know there are these "sales teams" that are assigned different area to sell magazines, OXY clean products, knifes, vacuums etc. Alot of the people who do this are working in areas they dont always know or live in and I am sure some of them are legitimate stoners just trying to toke. This doesnt meant that there couldn't be some undercover cop or anything trying to pose as the like.

I had this guy trying to sell me OXY clean products and he was telling me he was from Washington or something. Then after shooting the shit for a while
he asked me for buds, I did the same thing as you and just played dumb.

I used to work for AT&T and they had sales guys that would travel all over doing door to door shit. They hit up one area for a couple weeks then move on, I am sure it gets hard to hook up on the road. peace_highst

DJ, I guess that makes sense.. Both of them said that they weren't from around here... I guess if he wasn't a cop I feel kind of bad acting the way I did.. If I knew he wasn't I would have given him a spliff to smoke but you really can't take chances like that..

My bro in law,left his hm in Orogon,when he was 17 & got hooked up doing this exat job.
I' possitive He hit up some people,that looked Cool.
He called from all over the country,and ended setteling down in W.Va.

Twisted Trucker, I've been safe.. I don't do anything stupid involving weed that would put me under watch. I never buy from huge dealers or anything, just friends who have a pound or so at a time.

I've smoked up magazine salesmen, Kirby vacuum guys, petitioners, delivery guys (both furniture and pizza), cable guys, meter readers and even some chick looking for her lost dog (we found it too).

SO many of those sales teams, and this is coming from a guy thats been on them, led them, and managed 'em, are stoners without mercy. Keep in mind those Direct Marketing places don't drug test, and don't spend the day in an office. Perfect stoner gig, not to mention you can make some quite reasonable money.

But hey, never if it feels wrong. If you're gut is telling you something, listen.

If someone hits me with the 420 friendly line, I'll tend to give them the benefit of the doubt, but turn it around on 'em. Yeah, man, I'm 420 friendly, but I'm running low, can ya match me?

Then I can gauge how they react a bit better than the initial awkward (can it ever really be not awkward?) first contact.

Hail you were right to be use caution, better safe then sorry. Cops have to tell you they are cop, if you ask them. A plain clothes officer cant lie when you ask him if he is a cop or not. I think thats intrapement. Who cares if you might look like a dick, even if he wasnt a cop, that doesnt mean you cant get popped while trying to hook him up. He will sell you down the river since he doesnt even know you, if you gets caught with whatever you hook him up with, especially if he is an out-of-towner. Cops dont like people from other places coming into their city doing illegal shit. You did the smart thing peace_highst

Thanks NiteTiger, that actually made me feel a little safer. I also am from Texas and we have some really harsh laws here... If I was from somewhere else I would have loaded a bowl and smoked a stoner in need out.

Completely wrong and very dangerous misinformation. Cops DO NOT have to identify themselves if asked, and are allowed to lie in the process of gathering information about a crime.

Yeah I actually know someone who got busted by someone who said they weren't a cop. Anyways, who is the judge going to beleive in court.. A pot smoker or someone working for the cops... Enough said.

I also have a friend who told a cop "I don't consent to any searches" when he was pulled over because he wanted to avoid getting charged with paraphenalia.. The cop made him wait and called the drug dogs in and they "smelled something" then the cop found a grinder that had a grain of bud in it and charged him with possesion of under 2 ounces and paraphenalia. This happend the day he got off probation actually.. Fucking sucks, he's such a good guy. Alot of the shit you hear around forums like this on how to avoid being arrested don't alwayswork out.. Be very careful!

Yeahhhhh, that seems a little fishy to me........Would it be possible that these "salesmen" were informants out "fishing" for info, rather than UCs?

Better safe then sorry, you did the right thing by acting stupid. It's just not worth it to let people know of your illegal activities, especially if I was living in TX. Also, unless I've known you for years I would NEVER smoke someone up in or near my own home, let alone some random salesmen that comes to my door. It's just not worth it.

Only time I would smoke with some random person wouold be if it was painfully obvious that they REALLY smoked weed (ie: smelled like a frsh burnt joint, they were already high & it was really obvious or I see them smoking before they ask me). Most of the time a weed smoker can spot another weed smoker in a crowded room....so maybe u just look like a toker
