LST start time

I have some bag seed plants going in pots now and will transplant outside soon. they are 3 weeks old, one is about 7 inches. when is it ok to start bending them over? i want to try LST method instead of cutting the top. thanks

The sooner you bend, the sooner you get it's benefits. When you start really depends on how big or small your hands are. If they're big, you may not want to handle a 2" plant. If they're small, you need not wait for 7".

Note sativas stay pliable throughout their life, You can tie a mature sativa in knots and it wont blink. Indicas are stiffer and subject to snapping or splitting (tie them back up and they'll be fine). Rather than bend the base of an indica, bend the tip like a candy cane. That will be enough to jump start lower growth.

thanks....just what i needed to know. pretty sure the one i'm gonna lst is a sativa, can't wait to get started. my small hands are perfect for the job. Since it's bagseed...is it still possible to identify the strain?

going to be very difficult, if you are like me every time I buy a bag its from the same guy, I know he deals with the growers directly so I ask him each time what I'm getting, as luck would have it the time he forgot to ask is when I got seeds, usually how it goes because people think weed with seeds is shitty so they don't care about the name. If I were you and were trying to find out what strain it is, I would be looking at the shape of the leaves, trying to remember what the bud was like, how it tastes/ed, seeing if you can match it to any of the characteristics of other bud. You will probably never know but you might have better ideas on what it might be because you can eliminate the other possibilities of what it can't be.

I have always waited 2 weeks to LST, and the first time I do it I only bend the top like a candy cane. It has always worked for me, never snapped anything. "Knock on wood"

I start LST as early as possible in veg, essentially once the cutting is rooted and growing. My experience is that if you wait too long it becomes a pain in the ass..

I agree on bending as early as possible.

I run a LST'd garden. From seed, I LST immediately after sexing. From clone, depends on the intent. If I'm looking to harvest a few good clones along with streamlining a number of main stems, I LST at 7-8 nodes. If not, I LST at 4-5 nodes with 6-8 main stems when it's ready to flower. For me, LST is the easiest growing method with efficiency in mind. Its big drawback is time.
