Low temps?

How low in temps can most plants go? It was 53 degrees the other night. Tonight it is 59 degrees. Should I be worried soon? My brother-in-law suggested taking a big water tank like they have in offices and making a mini-greenhouse if it starts getting too much colder.

Also, my plant is showing female preflowers but hasn't started really budding yet. It was still stretching alot. I'm about 30 miles from Detroit. Why isn't my plant budding yet?

Hey Homer I live along way from where you are but my "yearly" temps are in the lower 40s(F) at night and it NEVER gets over 70 (F) in the day. I live at 4 00 N, 72 00 W in the Colombian Andes and the elevation is right around 9,000ft so the year round temps stay low but my plants grow just fine outside. I think as long as you don't get a "hard" frost you will be ok but up where you are your plant better hurry before it gets cold.
Peace from Colombia

Well, good news. I checked my plant for the first time in about a week and it's flowering. There's not much there now but it'll grow. Temps are night are going up to 60's so I should be good for awhile.

your plants seem to be right on time as far as flowering goes. i have some early ones, but most of my bagseed stuff is just starting to pop flowers.
as far as temps go... there were some guys on OG a few years ago that conducted an experiment and pot plants can tak quite a bit of the low temps. i think it was stoner 133 who found they could go down to about 23 degrees F. all i can tell you is that from my personal experience, i have had plants live through snow and a few frosts and still produce buds. good luck with your grow and get in tune with your plants. they, and a radio shack microscope, will tell you when its time to harvest.

oh yeah....

and don't forget, colder temps bring out the purple in a plant. here's one of my bagseed indica's from last season.

dont know what it is in F but i know hearty cannabis plants can survive a -4degree celcius night in the right conditions. i usually loose them after a couple of those nights in a row or a bad one past -6.

anything in the 50s at night really isnt nothing at all to be worried about. Once its starts getting in the lower 30s and 20s consistantly , then you should start worrying.

i threw some plants out in the winter just for the hell of it and it lasted through some frosts and till about 26 - 36 (something like that) degrees or below it started to just die....

yep, My night time temps are in the upper 30's....And in at 36degrees N.Southwest, US....Altitude is a bitch....Ive already gone and bought my insulating row covers.....Im planning on harvesting in around 20-25 days.....

So, whats more important to keep warm...The roots or the plant?..Can mulching help against frost?
