low nitrogen levels?

I was wondering why some of ACE's sativas say the plantas require low levels of nutrients, especially nitrogen]

are these plants nitrogen sensitive? Does excess nitrogen stunt their growth?

its because they are largely landrace genetics selected further outdoors in spain,, some are from more jungle environments which aren't always the richest nutient wise,, so they have never been spoilt and mollycoddled for nutrients,, it wont stunt their growth unless you burn them or cause them to hermie,,

as a general rule just normal soil mix and then keep an eye out for them being hungry,, when bottom leaves yellow and the rest go a bit more lime green than dark green give a normal-low feed,,

Agree lost in sea, many of the sativas that Ace supply will burn if fed too vigorously. Also, they tend to stretch too much with an aggressive Nitrogen feed (so opposite of stunting) though they can be stunted in early growth with too much food. If outdoors, a rich organic soil can be used that is well aged. The plants will take what they need and leave the rest. Indoors, the best bet is again a large pot with well aged rich organic soil. Then as suggested, additions of organics when the plant lets you know they need it. I've got Purple Haze x Thai indoors right now and they are requiring reasonable additions of N even mid way into flower. Another point to consider is indoor light spectrum. These pure sativas don't get optimal light indoors and that seems to also be a cause for yellowing and leaf loss.

hey thanks a lot for the info guys.

I am growing these plants OUTDOORS in a subtropical climate so stretch is not a problem for me.

I will experiment a little and see what happens. I want big plants!!!

You will get them for sure. Just work your soil with some good organics and let it cook for a few weeks before planting in. You could also start plants indoors and then transplant when a little older where they can handle a bit more nutrient levels.

As the plants grow, you can feed them occasional moderately heavy feed during veg and early into flower. Then use low level feeds in between pure water additions.

Outdoors, these beautiful sativas really grow themselves. If rain is a problem, you may wish to consider a greenhouse.

Hello RedDirtWarrior,

The most tropical sats like oldtimer's haze, double thai, green haze thai, purple haze thai, thai stick, laos etc .... need less Nitrogen than modern strains, especially if you grow them indoors along with modern hybrids, feed your tropical sats at half strenght than typical sativa /indica hybrids.

If you are growing tropical sats indoors you may need to control the size of the pot to avoid excessive stretching, then they will need some extra feeding from mid to late flowering, but they are light feeders during most of the grow cycle, especially if you are growing them outdoors straight in soil in a warm climate. Hope it helps.
