My grandad was a stage hand at the London Palladium in the 30’s.

In the summer of 1932 Louis Armstrong had a run at the LP and at the end of the run as a thank you to the stage hands he organised a Gage smoke out in the dressing room.

Pops (Louis) really liked my Pops, they were about the same age, so gave him the paper bag of the the leftover Gage.

In the bag was 7 seeds which he gave to my Dad who handed them on to me.

I’m 71, so thought its time to try to germinate these old heirloom family jewels.

I soaked, then bit them to get them all to pop and got 4 plants to grow.

Will get some pics up soon…

What a nice story, perfect to start a seed company with!
Maybe change the name from L.A. Gagseed to Gig Seed. Nothing wrong with a little gagging, some ladys like that... 🤡

I take a seat and wait for the pics if something happens 😋

I agree it’s a great story and to get 4 plants from seeds of the 1930’s is incredibly interesting. Looking forward to this thread. Cheers.

Mezz Mezrow's connection in that time period was in Chicago, and the "golden leaf" came from Mexico. The jazz musicians were dialed in to the best stuff on Earth. Good luck.

They called it "Boo"? My grandfather was a big band musician in Chicago during the depression. I wonder if he toked.

No way seeds will germinate after 90 years, not even in our wettest stoner dreams 😁, so you better keep them, since they are a nice gift and nice story your dad handed to you! You will just ruin them since they will simply end rotting. At least you can document how the seed's perianth looks like and even DNA could still be tested if the story is true and someone wanted to know the genetic heritage of the stuff people used to smoke in the 30s.

Can't help but imagine that muggles would have have had much in common with the Mexican and Jamaican of the late 60 and early seventies.

Be lucky to see any seed germinate if left in a draw for 10 years.

There is a truth in that story.

Here is the real story of the 7 seeds…
In 1241 my ancestor Jelena (who was a singer) was touring Poland with her new music. She was summoned to Legnica to perform at the after battle party by Genghis Khan no less. He loved her performance so asked her to stay for a smoke up, which she did and stayed the night.
That night he had given her 3 things
A male child
7 rubies
7 seeds (7 is a lucky number in China)
In his saddle bag he always had weed, rubies and underneath a steak for just in case.

There are no rubies left, just my granddaughter (bless her) who is 16 tomorrow.

I am a descendant of Genghis Khan! And apparently 1 in 200 men are.

Pics to come soon…

Oh there's more than one truth in it.

Performed at the Palladium in the summer of 1932: https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/louis-armstrong-crosses-the-atlantic/

You could easily keep running with the story. 😄

On a related note one of the best outdoor varieties for northern growers is a Danish strain called Royal Dane. It is said to be brought to Denmark by Bob Marley himself! The fact that it is pretty much like a Blueberry / Hindu Kush hybrid is explained by it being outcrossed to those varieties later on down the line. Who knows...
