My Bubblebags (7bag 5 gal set, to be shared with Sharp Pain and Blatant) arrived mid Friday afternoon, like any good stoner I left work early to make some bubblehash.
1st stop: Liquor store for three bags of Ice, and a six-pack of Stella Artios (dinner!)
2nd Stop: Targét for a mixer. I ended up with a Phillips hand blender, see photo's below, which in hindsight was a bad choice (more on that later).
3rd Stop: Home De Pot for 3 five gallon buckets.
4th stop: Tobacco trader for extra large rolling papers, nutritional sustenance will be important during the extraction process!
And were home!
Broke up the ice, setup the bags, lets make some hash!
130grams of fan leaves from my last run of purple kush have been sitting in my freezer for a while (actually 7 jars, each around 140g). This was not prime material, it was mostly fan leaves which had a decent amount of trichs on it, but had been left out to dry far too long before being frozen and had become too brittle.
Following bubbleman's own guide, I mixed for 15 minutes.
Everything I read said "USE TONS OF ICE" so I did. Bad Idea! I had too much ice, and not enough water. The results could be sold as slurpees if 7/11 existed in A-Dam.
Adding more water helped, but this thick slush did more trapping of trichs than it did extracting them. My second run, i used far less ice, but made sure all the water used was ice cold (melted ice to be exact). This was much easier to mix and produced better results as well.
All bags were drained and separated:
Pressed and left to dry overnight:
After drying, I crumbled it into powder:
The results were not very good, but my guess is it was due to the extreme dryness of the source material. It just crumbled and contaminated the hash.
None of the 5 grades could be rolled into a ball, and all 5 were very green.
I did a second run the next day of similar material and got a little better results. Everything was lighter in color and the 45u and 25u were easily rolled into balls. The 45u is nice and sticky.
I have lots of good sugary trim, but i didn’t want to risk ruining it on my first couple runs with the bags. The fan leaves are great practice to get your process down.
About the hand mixer pictured above: Don’t ever buy one for making bubblehash! They are only made to run for short bursts, and 3 minutes into mixing the whole handle felt like it was going to catch fire. This particular model also had to have it's button held down in order to mix, and I found no good way to rig it always-on.
Hopefully I will be able to obtain Full Melt Clear Dome bubblehash nirvana one day. Until then I would just be happy to get something remotely blond.
