Lost my Bubble Virginity

My Bubblebags (7bag 5 gal set, to be shared with Sharp Pain and Blatant) arrived mid Friday afternoon, like any good stoner I left work early to make some bubblehash.

1st stop: Liquor store for three bags of Ice, and a six-pack of Stella Artios (dinner!)
2nd Stop: Targét for a mixer. I ended up with a Phillips hand blender, see photo's below, which in hindsight was a bad choice (more on that later).
3rd Stop: Home De Pot for 3 five gallon buckets.
4th stop: Tobacco trader for extra large rolling papers, nutritional sustenance will be important during the extraction process!

And were home!

Broke up the ice, setup the bags, lets make some hash!

130grams of fan leaves from my last run of purple kush have been sitting in my freezer for a while (actually 7 jars, each around 140g). This was not prime material, it was mostly fan leaves which had a decent amount of trichs on it, but had been left out to dry far too long before being frozen and had become too brittle.

Following bubbleman's own guide, I mixed for 15 minutes.

Everything I read said "USE TONS OF ICE" so I did. Bad Idea! I had too much ice, and not enough water. The results could be sold as slurpees if 7/11 existed in A-Dam.

Adding more water helped, but this thick slush did more trapping of trichs than it did extracting them. My second run, i used far less ice, but made sure all the water used was ice cold (melted ice to be exact). This was much easier to mix and produced better results as well.

All bags were drained and separated:

Pressed and left to dry overnight:

After drying, I crumbled it into powder:

The results were not very good, but my guess is it was due to the extreme dryness of the source material. It just crumbled and contaminated the hash.
None of the 5 grades could be rolled into a ball, and all 5 were very green.

I did a second run the next day of similar material and got a little better results. Everything was lighter in color and the 45u and 25u were easily rolled into balls. The 45u is nice and sticky.

I have lots of good sugary trim, but i didn’t want to risk ruining it on my first couple runs with the bags. The fan leaves are great practice to get your process down.

About the hand mixer pictured above: Don’t ever buy one for making bubblehash! They are only made to run for short bursts, and 3 minutes into mixing the whole handle felt like it was going to catch fire. This particular model also had to have it's button held down in order to mix, and I found no good way to rig it always-on.

Hopefully I will be able to obtain Full Melt Clear Dome bubblehash nirvana one day. Until then I would just be happy to get something remotely blond.

Thanks so much for letting us look over your shoulder, Juan. Great tip to work with fan leaves till ya get the hang of it. I'm SO looking forward to losing my bubble virginity! But I may also need a new vaporizer, so would probably make that investment first. Ahh, decisions decisions.

Bubble on! :headbange

Geez look at that mess. You call that a mixer? I've seen better mixing done with turntables. Have I offended you yet? Well good thing your trying it out before me. I'll fuck it all up. And then find some way to work in some duct tape. :chin: I'll have to come by and see what this whole thing is about. Keep on Truckin! Yeeha!

HOG: Thanks!

FF: Hopefully I will be able to say the same.

Fernandro: thanks for the kind words. Get those bags, and dont cheap out, get bubblemans and get the 7 bag set. I must say, the quality on bubblemans bags is excellent, the could use a little better QA though. One of my bags had a broken drwstring, another had some broken stitching around one of the screens. Both were fixed easily.

amsterdame: Anytime! I wanted to show it from a complete newb's perspective. That way everyone who doesnt have bags can learn along with me.

Sharpie: Isnt Brown sugar your pet name for Blatant? I have done 2 runs, and have like 8 more to do. I will have it down pat before your ass ever makes it out here.

Blatant: "Keep on Truckin! Yeeha!"???? Your raiders get their ass kicked and you become a redneck??? Come over soon, I need a laborer to run the mixer. I have lots of green hash for you to puff on.

Sorry I'm a lil diluted today. Been a rough few weeks.

Redneck never! I don't live in a red state. And I sure the hell don't think Jeff Foxworthy is funny.

Keep on Dippin'! Booyah!

looks like your problem is the hand "blender" you need a "mixer" my friend, that thing is turning it all to mush or slushy. get a mixer and your problems should be solved

Turkish: The blender also came with a wisker (egg beater) attachment. I tried using that on the second run and got similar results. I will go get a cake mixer style one (they are only like $16) and see what happens.

Juan, make sure the water is very cold before adding the ice because product quality suffers if either the water is too warm or if the weed used isnt that great.

Don't be bummed by the quality as I am sure your 45 is pretty good. Very dry product can contaminate the fine bags but I find that seeded buds like I have around seldom make very good bubble. :( No matter how I try mediocre is the best I can get with them. So the quality is much to do with the resins themselves rather then the process.

Today I made my first sour bubble bubblehash and even the 120 looks to be pretty good. I always prefer my 73 and nothing came through to the 45. Practically nothing because my trichomes are big and this batch was very clean. I will do a thread later because I want everyone to see how sour bubble 73 grade acts when heated. :)

You have learned the process Juan and now you have a new tool. An indispensible tool every pot smoker should use. BOG :) Everyone eventually accumulates some extra shake...

Thanks for the look BOG. I have to admit, your photo's are half the reason I'm striving for better bubble =).

All the water I use sits in the ice bucket before use to ensure it's nice and cold.

I am not expecting sand-colored full melt with the stuff I'm putting in, as it's not only too dry, but mostly fan leaves with very little trim.

I still have another 4 or 5 jars of crap dry leaves, and then I'll move on to the 3 full of good sugary trim.
