Loss of vital information and contributions - Chimera

I am surprised that the erasure of Chimera’s entire forum here has been so quiet. Having learned a ton from everyone who posted there, especially Ryan’s science based knowledge sharing, it seems counterproductive for a user content driven site to encourage participation and engagement by deleting years of work.

As my friend Tim once said, “It is the rabbit!”

If you pay zanadoo hosting to hold your webpage, then stop paying, should zanadoo keep hosting it for free?

If zanadoo keep hosting your pages for free, who's intellectual property is that? Would you expect paying from their add revenue?

My ex gf expects me to keep doing things for her, even 10 years after she last serviced my needs. Are you saying I should?

They paid for some space. You used it. They stopped paying without notification. Now it's gone. Who's at fault here. The person that pulled the rug from under you, or the person you expect to slip a new rug under you.

Why don't you pay. Or just post on IC funded forums, not 3rd party ones that may vanish.

IC on the other hand, could pin a post above the forums of 3rd parties, explaining these are hosted by IC on a paid for basis, and the 3rd party could close them at any time.

Most vendors pay on time and really use their forums, so they know they are paid forums from the start, and the tax is on a year period, clearly stated from the get go. Never before we had an advertiser complain about not understanding that, or complaining about it especially when they received some months of free ads and vendor forum cause we had some staff change (and also because we could not contact him to talk about it before taking it out). We simply had to do what we had to do, and belive it or not this is for the greater good and continuation of this forum. Because, things cost money for us too. Just like hosting of a subforum and and ads to go with it costs money for our vendors. Also, there has been no change in policy, it's what has ever been done. So, don't hate on Icmag or the team behind it, we just want to have a working budget to keep the doors open for our members.
Thank you for understanding!

Respectfully, I can understand all of these points (really) but is there any hope of the forum being archived as previous breeders subs have been? It was done previously when BR closed shop the first time...

No hate here, nothing combative. Hope there's room for discussion.

Yeah its not only about what the vendor payed for.
It's demotivating for those who put their work and experience in that forum.
Would it be such a big problem to simply close that forum for further replies so that no more "work" needs to be done but the info is still accessible?

And again, I am open to freeing grow threads if you guys ask for them back. Our users should not suffer from this. As whipedmeat says, we need to keep true and fair to our rules and all past and current vendors. We might have infuriated some users at this moment, but bear with us as we are trying to get a working budget and make this forum survive, get better, and able to evolve with the times.
