Lord,What a Mess!!

As some of you who read my "Damn You,Rez" thread on the Reservoir Seeds forum may know, I had a major man-made disaster in my grow room. A late-showing Princess Diesel male pollinated my entire room of 2 dozen young virgins, 12 strains in all. (my fault, entirely)

At first, I was naive enough to think I might have 4-5,000 seeds from this little mishap, but as I pick seeds, I now find the total magnitude of my misfortune. I have had seeds before, as I have one strain, a P-91, that is slightly hermi prone and I always get 6-30 seeds nearly every time I grow it. I have even purposely pollinated my Afghan Bullrider and AK-47 ladies with some PD pollen to get some experimental plants, only pollinating 1 or 2 buds at a time, resulting in 30-50 seeds.

I have now harvested and dried the plants and am starting to pick the seeds out, a tiresome chore for these arthritic old hands. From the 2 smallest plants, both Jedi, I have picked about 1500 seeds each. This leads me to believe that I may wind up with 35-40,000 seeds total, about half of them mature enough to germ. It is marvelous to see what can happen with a little pollen, 2 floor fans and 2 window a/cs blowing.

As I am a med grower and caregiver, I don't have time to test each variety for germination, flowering time, yield and medical properties of the buds. My major concern is to get meds to my patients, who are going to have slim pickings after this disaster. Fortunately, I had some ladies in veg ready to go for the next crop. Also fortunately, we have set up some of our patients as growers and I have some friends willing to grow out and test these new strains.

After the testing, I plan to send some freebies to Seedbay. I told Dutchgrown that I would probably send a couple thousand seeds to Seedbay. I may have to revise this. I wonder if Gypsy would like a years supply of freebies? LOL

This is such a pain in the hands(and ass) that I have often considered throwing the whole mess in the trash, but I would like to give back to this community that has provided so much growing info for me. I just wish that I had given more attention to the sections on recognition of male plants and the necessity of visiting your grow room every day and inspecting every plant.

Please don't take this thread as an offer for seeds. Do not ask me for free seeds, as the only offer I am making is to Seedbay. It is against forum guidelines to offer or ask for seeds or clones. I am only expressing some frustration here for the mistake that I made.

To all other newbies out there who grow from seed, check your plants every day and learn to recognize males at once. Chop their balls off immediately for violating the "Virgins only" rule for grow rooms. Do as Pops says, not as Pops does!

Hopefully, in the future, many of you can enjoy the fruits of my labor(and stupidity) in the 12 crosses I have made and the freebies you can get from Seedbay.

Pops, who are you trying to fool my friend you give back alot to this community each day that your here. This is just another example of your generosity.

I'm happy to hear that the storm in your grow room has passed and you will now be able to get back to helping your med patients. I know it has been hard on you.

Your a good man Pops. Hang in there with all those new babies !

Red, both the yield and quality was way down. When you produce that many seeds, you have to tear the buds up considerably to get the seeds. The first to be pollinated and the most mature are at the deepest point on the bud, right next to the stem. Tric coverage was much lower and I expect potency to be much lower as well. I haven't tried them yet. I will probably donate the torn-up bud and trim to a young lady who supports her kids by making edibles for med patients who can't smoke.

When a plant is pollinated heavily, it seems to stop making new bud and the size of the bud is smaller than expected. Some of the seeded plants, like the Very Berry Surprise x Bubblegum, was beautiful, as the seed covers were red instead of green.

Wow! I never thought it out! That is one hell of alot seeds! Man ,Pops my hats off to you. I know how my eyes and fingers are, I couldn't even imagine. The whole time in the back of your mind is thoughts of folks that are/were depending on you. Man, if that don't show freaking character. This one hellova gesture on your part. Freaking words on screen don't even come close to expressing myself. This is a spirit I thought long ago had become jaded and died. Your mother would be proud!

Old Fool, my mom is 81, a 2-time cancer survivor who had to take care of a husband who had a stroke after her 2nd chemo treatment. She lives in a state that doesn't have mmj. I grow for those who can't and I love it.

i agree... if you're gonna throw them away, i say sprinkle them on the freeway, highway, where ever you can! start overgrowing lol. i've got plenty of free time between clients too. if i had thousands of seeds, NYC would be a fat marijuana forest for next summer! i could stand to lose more than a few pounds too! lol.

PF, I will take the immature seeds that I don't give to Seedbay and I will donate them to the flower beds of our local police stations, administration buildings and local parks. I want everyone to enjoy these beautiful and odorific flowers.

Was thinking...

Was thinking...

About how we used to use a kitchen wire mesh strainer to remove seeds. You have way too much bud for that. But what about getting a wire mesh window screen and rubbing the dry buds through it? Might be easier on your hands. - Granny :joint:

Classic.
That's the kind of thing we did back in the 60's early 70's.
Another option may be to over dry the bud, grind it, sort the seeds out and make bubble.
I don't envy your hands. Hope you have some good stash to help you through this.

Pops, it's much easier if you let them dry until the buds are brittle. You can then rub them between your palms and let them drop onto an incline plane. Sorry to hear about this and hopefully you don't go through it again.....

JJ, Storm crow and KK, thanks for the tips. I only have 4 seed plants in my grow room at this time and I have examined them very closely and will continue to do so for some time. I really don't want a repeat. I have enough seeds to last 50-60 years. I was trying to salvage some bud for our patients, but I am about to give it up. We will probably make a ton of canna butter and lots of munchies.

Education is always an expensive proposition. I and my patients have paid through the nose for this one. Let's hope I learned a good lesson.

Thats crazy pops, you must have really not noticed that bad boy until late, I mean some flowers had to be open to pollenate that bad! Recently I grew out 2 Strawberry Diesel from Rez and thought they were both female. Well like week 2 I realize one that was spooning the other was actually a male, DOh. My luck the balls hadn't popped yet, right? wrong, the entire female had like 1000 seeds. My luck was that I only got a random Bubba or different kush slightly seeded with like 5 or 6 per plant which isn't bad.
I still don't know why the Female Strawberry D got completely seeded...I know Bubba is very stable, but would that mean that Strawbery D is like Sour D, kinda sketchy on the stress side of things....or did the rubbing together with so many preemy balls get her preggy like that with..

Hey Pops, you may want to consider starting your own line and call it "Pops Sickles 31 Flavors "

The marketing possibilities are endless.
