Hi,

Please let me know your experiences with inline fans or whatever fans used to cool a 400watt HPS. I need something super quiet!

Thx!!

A fairly small vortex would be the best bet.. probably the quietest.. I just purchased a hurricane.. very similar, about 20 bucks less, very quiet, but just not quite as quiet as the vortex.. you just cooling the light, or the room too?

By "Vortex fan" do you guys mean the actual Vortex Powerfan brand, or just any in-line centrifugal duct fans in general?

If the former, how do Elicent's compare in noise level? I understand they have one of the best performances in the in-line centrifugal area? Or did I get duped by some marketing, again?

The difference in sound emitted between all the major makers (Vortex, Elicent, Can Fan, Fantech, etc) is only around 5 db...so I seriously doubt you'll be able to notice any differences without an audio meter.

Besides Vortex's 10yr warranty, they are pretty much all equal...so find a good price on one and you'll be set. Just stay away from the duct booster fans available at home improvement stores.

Everyone is correct, especially the 5 decibel deal, I've had vortex and elicent and a loud-ASS Dayton. I would suggest a 4" for a 400...

Fans can be boxed and surrounded by insulation material to quiten any noise from the fan rotating but IME it's the actual air being moved that makes a racket.

If your worried about noise, keep all ducting pulled taught- completely stretched out & as straight as possible to ensure a smooth path for the air flow through. Use insulated ducting to reduce the noise from the the airflow itself.

What country are you in? You need to make sure the fans you get are electrically compatible with your country's wiring...plus it'll be alot cheaper to ship it within the same country.
