Looking for a DIY Micro Hydro

Once I get a camera, I'll take pics of my micro-dwc. It was really easy, and I'm using 1 quart containers, and everything was under 35 bucks.

No, I haven't gotten any meters or anything, I've just thrown them in a PC case for my friend, and I'm going to check on them tomorrow. I'll check with him, and if he has a camera I'll get pics of stuff. I should be able to get weekly updates than.

Sweet thanks, I am just tired of soil :(
Did you buy any meters?
I have a BlueLab EC Truncheon. I love it. I'm glad I have it. But, now that I have used it to map a grow, I wonder if I really needed it. Now that I know EC and pH move in opposite directions, and have boned up on deficiancies, I think my $5 test drop kit from the aquarium store was all I really needed.

However, my res holds 12 gallons. The smaller the res, the faster it can turn on you.

hey, all i was also wondering about a similar system, except i was goingto use a wick system , in which the plants wicks will soak up the oxygenated Nute mix. has anyone tried this in a micro set up for flowering.

If you are tired of soil and want better results without too much hassle I would recommend you check up on Coco coir which is an excellent medium that brings together the best of both worlds. Also, you can keep your plants in smaller containers which makes it quite great for micro grows. Hand-watering Coco works great, but if you want automation you could always go ebb-n-flow or drippers with it.

DWC on the other hand, or "bubblers," I find to be an extremely difficult way of growing and a pain in the arse if you dont know what you are doing. Very few people get good results the first time they try DWC, you usually have to go back to the drawing board a couple of times and dial your nutes in.

Just my 2 cents, bro.

Keep on growing

My experience exactly. My first two were experiments off to the side. First one died (power failure). Second one was ... ok ... but, was pulled after showing male flowers. The third time was my first "Official" DWC.

I can't imagine an easier way to grow indoors. There's only two steps. One, water every two weeks. Step two, harvest.

Hey guys I am looking for someone to due a tutorial on micro hydro. I am thinking of using a 6 quart but am sort of unsure what to do. I have seen others do it pretty well and I'd love to save money and buy everything at either Lowe'z or Casa Depot using atrium grates and hydroton or whatever else I can use.

I am working on it sir, I am in the middle of building it, started yesterday, hopefully it will be up and running by monday at the latest. I am going to be using a 12 qt rubbermaid however. What I was wondering however, was if you could point me in the direction of a good "basic H2O" thread, that would give me a rundown of what's needed/where to find and options on materials, if possible. I have been poking around the H2O pages, just haven't found it yet. I don't need a breakdown here, as I'm sure it has been chronicled elsewhere, just point me in the right direction if you don't mind.

Edit : So after some looking / digging I found this in the GrowFAQ. I'm guessing its close to "gospel"? Feedback? or  ?

So thisiswhat you found:

These mixes work well and are the accepted standard mix recommended for newbies as well as those new to GH Flora series nutes. It is simple to remember: 3-2-1...2-2-2...1-2-3. Listed as (grow-micro-bloom) Always mix the micro into the water first.

**Teaspoons per US gallon (5ml = 1 part)

Vegetative stage: Use 3-2-1 (3 parts grow, 2 parts micro, 1 part bloom)
Early flowering: first 2-3 weeks or until stretching stops: Use 2-2-2 (2 parts each)
Late flowering: Use 1-2-3 (1 part grow, 2 parts micro, 3 parts bloom)

** Dilute final mixture (or adjust part size) to suit your plants nutrient strength (EC/TDS) requirements. GH Flora series is slightly lacking Mg, add 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon epsom salts per gallon of final mix. Dissolve the salts in some warm water before adding to your nutrient reservoir.

+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*
+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*
In veg state, do they mean
3 * 5ml = 15ml of grow
2 * 5ml = 10ml of micro
1 * 5ml = 5ml of bloom
total = 30ml of everything combined + the epsom salts?

Right now im only doing mine in soil, but ive only been using the grow soloution. Should i be placing some bloom in to the mix?

I am going SWC on my next grow as I am sick of soil as well. I picked up a 1 gallon box that fits my PC perfect!
leaning towards going with the pure blend system but I already have fox farms and need to use that up.
When mixed with poland spring spring water it balances out at around 5.0 PH with out adjusting..

I would say go aquaponic right from the start. 2.5 gallon fish tank. Get some plexiglass for the lid and cut out holes for net pots with a dremel or hole saw or have a glass shop do it. Get an internal filter with venturi air injection. You will have the power cord and an an air intake tube coming out. Find a good fish store; not Petco. Get some fancy guppies that look healthy. Get one male and a several females.

You need to be able to take the cabon/charcoal OUT of the filter as you will not be using it. Charcoal would just suck out all the good nutes. You will also need a little bit of gravel or other form of live bacteria culture to put in the tank. Snails, the little brown free ones. They are your friend.

As your plants grow, the guppies will breed and you will need to feed them more so the waste/nute levels will go up as the plants needs for them increase. Try using aquatic plant ferts; fishtank plant stuff as opposed to the pond plant ferts you get at Lowes. Some nutes might be/will be missing with nothing but broken-down fish waste for fertilizer. One tiny dropper bottle should do your first grow if it is nano.

I forgot: you need to get the nitrosonia bacteria culture established in the tank/filter before putting plants in. This takes 2 weeks with an undergravel filter; may take longer with a little plastic sponge in the internal filter (no undergravel filters for 2.5 gal tanks :(

The ammonia will spike first, then the nitrite and nitrates will spike and once they all fall to baseline, it should be ready for young plants to drink and feed.

The advantage to aquaponic, as I see it, is a stable system with living indicators in your res. The disadvantage is that you can't go nuts with the nute levels as this will kill most types of fish.

I've got some legals going aquaponic. I accidentaly drank some of my fish water once and didn't even notice the difference from filtered tap water. lol

micro aquaponics...i do loads of aquaponics, id say leave this alone it will be way more trouble than its worth. if you are interested in micro aquaponics try growing a bonchi(bonsai chilli) once you got it figured out you can replant that system and put it in your cab...but serously small res= ph flux, temp flux, minimal area for bacteria to colonise...head ache

good luck
