Longer Days?

I have recently gotten a spiffy new timer with 8 programs. It got me to thinking, that since it works on a weekly cycle, why couldn't I program it up to have 6 cycles (days) that were 28 hours long, in one week? It is my assertion that the plants are more effected by the dark than the light when it comes to flowering. So why not have 12 hour dark, and 16 hours of light? So that would give you 96 hours of light/week, instead of the normal 84 hours using 24 hour days. In my mind it just makes sense, but then again my mind isn't exactly 'normal'.

I'm even thinking of doing this for veg as well, do like a 22/6. Not to mention this would raise hell with the power companies looking for a 12/12 cycle in power usage.

Thoughts?

As long as you keep your bills paid, there's not really any need to worry bout the power company looking at your usage.

Otherwise, I'm interested in your results.
How will it affect YOUR circadian rhythm?

The extra time should be fine for veg, but extending your light hours during flower may stress the plant too much, possibly turning it hermie. Havent attempted it first hand, but Im cheap and get sad when a plant doesnt do the best I can with it.

I would like to try it, but I'm not going to experiment with my current grow. Maybe dig out some old 150 w hps security lights that i think I may still have somewhere, and do a side by side with a pair of clones. this thought came from some paper I read years ago about chemical/hormones involved in inducing flowering. I seem to remember the process involved in triggering flower, only being related to the dark period. I don't know if it is really worth the hassle, basically you would be packing 8 weeks worth of light, into 7 weeks.
