Long range driveway alert system for improved security

I was searching around online trying to find a way to get alerted if a car was coming my way while I'm at my plots. I found a long range driveway alert system that uses a handheld radio and a motion sensor. Multiple motion sensors can be used with the same radio with a unique alert signature (spelling?) for each motion sensor. Up to four motion sensors can be used. They claim the range to be up to 4 miles, so 1 to 2 maybe, from handheld radio to motion sensor. $178 for the radio and one sensor & $127 for each extra sensor.

Here is the link http://www.intercomsonline.com/MURS-Alert-Handheld-Kit-p/murs-handheld-kit.htm

I water my plots from a res. in the bed of my truck parked on the side of the road, risky, yes, but only for 12 minutes per plot for 100 gal. at a time, so I need to know if someone is coming.

Very reasonably priced system for the security it adds.

Thought I'd let ya'll know about it.

randude: yes possibly, but even if they found the signal, I would have enough time to disconnect myself from the grow before they showed up. I would also remove them when I left, so they wouldn't be there all the time sending out signals.

I think it is not a bad idea. We have one on our driveway and it has kept us from getting caught with our pants down a few times, literally!

randude101: yes, it does have its drawbacks.

Say, for instance, a LEO passes by the motion detector and picks up the radio signal with his scanner and hears "Alert Zone Two". And say the rural county officer is bright enough to put two and two together and figure out what is going on(just pretend here), so he turns around and passes back down the road til he hears the alert and gets out and finds the hidden motion sensor.
Well, so what, just make sure there are no fingerprints on it, including the batteries, or legible identification numbers on the unit that can be traced back to the buyer. Purchase with a money order and have it sent to a clean address.
Meanwhile, I recieve the alert signal a mile away, disconnect the water hose from my "diesel fuel tank" in the bed of my truck and leave in the opposite direction stopping to get my other motion sensor.

Or, you can join the hunting club that has rights to the property and just leave it there year round, LEO will get used to hearing the alert signal and just start ignoring it. If they ask the hunting club about is just tell them if your aiming at a buck by the road, you want to know if a car is coming so you can make the shot before the buck gets ran off by the vehicle.
He might even ask where you got it so he can have one for his hunting club, then you can go grow in his cutovers using his sensors for your safety.

I glad you found it, I posted this waaay back, on "Hands Free Outdoor Grows" and have used it to sucess. You need to camo the unit with leaves, esp the antenna!!!! Its silver!!! I super glued leaves etc to the whole thing, I'm in a forest so it blends. It does work for great distances I put em in at chokepoints so it will "Alert Zone One" me while I run gas powered water pumps. Everytime I try to tell folks how cool this thing is they balk.. lol Now as far as LEO hearing the signal, NOT, it broadcasts a signal not vocalization!! The walkie receives it and transmits to the speaker or an earplug. Hope this helps!!
