OK ya’ll, it worked out slick and here is the recipe.

One of the patients in our group had jaw pain and coveted a lozenge. I came up with the following that seems to work slick for me and goes out to the patient tomorrow for field testing.

Spearmint Cannapops

1 Cup sugar
1/3 Cup honey
3/8 Cup water
½ Dram Spearmint oil concentrate
½ Dram BHO cannabis oil concentrate
1 Oz Everclear
. Powdered sugar as needed

Start by extracting the cannabis oil from approximately 25 grams of trim using BHO techniques. Collect raw extract and re-dissolve in 190 proof ethanol.

Place ethanol/raw cannabis oil mixture in 230F oil bath and add three to four drops of water. Boil while swirling jar, until bubbling ceases.

Add Spearmint oil and stir until mixed. Set aside.

Mix the sugar, honey, and water in a pot and place in an oil bath at 375F. Mix well during low heat and then cease stirring until the mixture reaches 300F.

Remove from oil bath and allow to cool until it reaches ~230F. Add cannabis spearmint oil mixture and stir until mixed.

Spoon mixture into prepared lollypop molds, or pour onto cookie sheet that has been lightly sprayed with Pam.

Score material in pan in ¼ grid pattern with a Pam lubricated knife as it cools.

Allow to cool until semi rigid, and then remove lollypops from the mold and coat them and the sheet lightly with powdered sugar to eliminate stickiness.

Titrate to determine dosage using ¼” scored squares.

how'd it work for the patient?

Good question! I was just reviewing the results!

The patients uniformly loved it, they proved damn potent as well as long lasting.

Patients reported about a 45 minute to 1 hour onset of pain relief and of a solid body high, as well as significant psycho active effect.

One patient, who describes herself as an old hippy and a light weight, took one before bedtime and described the experience as shroomy. It body slammed her but left her mind awake all night.

I just completed batch number two, which I made with a 50/50 blend of concentrated candy cinnamon oil and the decarboxylated BHO oil from 75 grams of trim. I am 10 hours into testing it and it is still going strong.

Since these lollypops seem pretty speedy, I will make some using ethanol extracted cannabis oil from bubble hash next run, to see if we can make a lollypop with a little less upper end.

I also ordered a happy face lollypop mold, which seems appropriate for this product.

Perhaps as exciting as how well the lollypops worked out, is how serendipity delivered another product to our door step. Check out my next post on infused concentrated candy oils.

You are posting lots of interesting stuff GW!

Just something to think about, and possibly experiment with: essential oils like spearmint and cinnamon contain terpenoids, menthol, and other aromatics that will modify the cannabinoid response. I think this area of study of aromatic-cannabinoid response modification will yield some really interesting stuff in the future.

What type of oil are you using for the oil bath? I would assume different cooking oils have different thermal properties with respect to the boiling point.

More lollipops!

More lollipops!

A quick update on the progress made with the Cannapops.

I have experimented with both alcohol extracted cannabis oil and BHO and note that there are differences in their medicinal effect.

Field testing uniformly showed that the alcohol extracted cancer meds which I provided in oil, put people to sleep at OD and the lollypops made with it did the same thing to me. I tried one Friday morning and lost 3 hours to a cat nap.

Field testing showed that the BHO lollypop was an upper and more suited for daytime than bedtime unless for entertainment vis a vis sleep.

A self proclaimed lightweight had a shroomy body down, mind alert experience and a heavyweight tester experienced flying for the first time in his life.

Alcohol is a non polar solvent and takes everything, including the plant waxes, vegetable oils, and alas, chlorophyll, which makes it taste greeeeeeen, and stain badly.

To minimize their non medicinal bulk and taste, I first extract the bubble hash or kief and then extract the oil from that. It doesn’t totally eliminate undesirable constitutes, but it greatly reduces it. It also allows me to increase the potency per unit volume, by not including the non medicinal bulk.

Since the effect actually was present whether I extracted from plant material or hash, I infer that it resides within the harvested trichomes as opposed to general distribution throughout the plant material.

Alas, old clouded eyes and serendipity reared its multi faceted head in the project when I mistakenly read the number 1 font on the one dram flavoring oil bottle as Cinnamon Oil flavoring, when in reality it said Cinnamon Roll flavoring, so the alcohol extracted cannabis oil lollypops all have a nice cinnamon roll with honey flavor.

I extracted the oil from 14 grams of bubble hash and infused that into 4 drams of Cinnamon Roll oil. I then made 20 lollypops and some sheet out of two drams of the resulting mix, one of which I sampled and 19 went out for field testing, along with the broken up sheet, which hereafter I will refer to as (“the good”) canna sheet.”

One of the one dram bottles went out for field testing as a tincture, and I am holding two in reserve for further experiments.

I also ran a BHO lot with double cinnamon oil and 3/8 tsp of capsicum, but it was still not quite as spicy as I intended, sooooo, based on that sample result, I ran a second lot in which I supersaturated the sugar solution with cinnamon oil after stirring in the cannabis oil and added ½ tsp of capsicum. Absolutely perfect if you like reeeeeealy hot cinnamon candy (like me)!

I poured off the seething, roiling mixture into heart shape lollypop molds, and sent them off for testing by an aficionado who specifically asked me to make it that hot. I of course tried some of the good sheet and loved it but it was so spicy that I couldn’t just leave it in my mouth. Hee, hee, hee……

Next by patient request, Pino Colato!

dude you are doing it right, please continue and share more with us. i find lollys and suckers one of the best ways for me to ingest thc. I get some at a dispensary up near grass valley but they are not strong enough. I will try your recipe and do twice the oil. How many pops should I yield if i double the recipe and use a little more thc? thanks and great thread

also what is a dram?

I am mixing the cannabis oil and flavoring oil about 50/50% and it only takes about 20% menstruum oil to make cannabis oil flow smoothly at room temperature, so there is room to make them stronger.

I put 1/2 dram of cannabis oil and 1/2 dram of flavoring oil in 1 cup of sugar. From that I get about 15 pops.

A dram is about a teaspoon, .125 fl/oz, or 3.7ml. The reason that I used that measurement is that is what size bottles the flavoring oil comes in and the candy recipe I use calls for.

Enjoy!

after you get the bho, you put it in an oil bath? Do u put the bho directly into the oil? if so how much oil? I find your oil bath explantion to be hard to follow, but other than that this seems pretty cool

The oil bath is used as a double boiler or hot water bath, but in this case he's using oil instead of water. Or that's my understanding.

The bho is adding to the flavoring oil which is not the same oil as used in the oil bath.
Correct me if i'm wrong OP.

I used the dram measure because that is size bottle that the flavoring oil comes in. One dram is one teaspoon or about .125 fl/oz.

In response to how I cook with the oil bath, I have a Cussinart electric fondue pot full of cannola oil. I put a jar ring in the bottom with four lids sitting in the ring, on which I set a fruit jar with my potion in it, or a stainless asparagus cooker if I am using plant material.

I use a 10 to 400F mercury lab thermometer to keep track of the temperatures, but a candy thermometer will work.
