Local canal water

Hi guys,

I`m pretty new to guerilla growing .. or outdoor growing.
Last year I was slinging water (no car) to the grow site.. it was hell.. I only managed to get something like 2.5 ounces, and that was on ONE plant... This year, I want to flower 5-6 females (in the ground, or not)..
There`s a local canal(coming from the city`s bigass river) near the site... A LOT of different plants grow in that canal...
I wanna build a self watering pot or hole for each girl... Would the water in the canal cause damage to the roots..?-like algae and shit?
The plants IN the canal look very healthy each year, and the canal`s sides are FULL of weeds and stingy bushes.. and really tall green grass... even some willows here and there..

So, will the water damage the roots? Would it have a big impact in a self-watering system? Would it be better in a classical watering sys?

I can take some pics of the canal and plants somewhere in march/april if necessary (when they start to grow)

Thank you in advance ! :tiphat:

The plants growing in or next to the canal such as the willows and grasses do not mind having their feed wet. Cannabis does mind. Moist but not soaked is a good description.

Does the canal have boat traffic? One, they might be spotted by a passing boat. Two, the water may contain fuel, oil, pollutants, etc. I would say if the water moves pretty good you should be ok or if you would eat fish that came from the canal you should be fine.

No fish, just frogs.. no boat traffic either...
I just want to water from the canal... not plant directly in/around it
