Lightproofing The Veg Room?

Howdy Folks,

Experienced grower with a stupid question: Do light leaks in veg cause problems?

I've always vegged 24/0 so I've never worried about completely lightproofing my veg areas. I'm now running more bloom wattage and was wanting to cut the light bill a bit and go to 18/6. Only light pollution into the veg room during the dark period would be from the cloning/pre-veg cab.

So what say ya'll, problem or not?

Thanks

I'd say your good I've never had my moms, vegging plants or clones ever have any issue with my closet not being light proof..
And I mean the gap in the two doors is like .5 in at the bottom and touch at the top..
Lol funny story my son came in my room one nite when the lights were on and came screaming in to the living room that aliens were in my closet.. The ligh leaking out the cracks and the sound of the fan scared the piss out of him lol
But to answer your question I'd say ur good I've nevver had any issues... As I'm sure u know in bloom its another story...

Veg light leaks = more veg.

As long as your not on a 12 hour on 5.5 hours off 1 hour on and 5.5 hours on cycle, you are golden.

Thanks guys.

Didn't really THINK it would cause any problems because, at least the way I understand it, it takes 12 hours of absolute darkness to induce the hormonal change that triggers flowering. So, by extention, 18/6 with a feint glow should't cause any problems.

K+ to all.

Yep, all said above is right on.
but if you intend to flower in that same cabinet, you'd better light-proof it anyway.
Light leaks during 12/12 will lead to issues with your plants and you don't want that.

Peace :joint:

Not an issue. Flower and veg rooms are seperated by utility/lung room. Eventually the veg will get lightproofed anyway, but it's good to get confirmation that I need not hurry.

Thanks again!

agreed, I do exactly what you're describing. I have my veg table on one light schedule, and my cloner on 24h. Never had any issues

I have a rubermaid tub with lights on inside for cloning, it glows a bit, it lives in my veg room that has 16 hrs of light a day during the winter months and in a cooler part of the house in summer, i haven't seen any difference in plant behavior, yeilds and growth are the same.

Are they in the same room?

Would be nice to loose the clone/preveg cab and move to a shelf in the veg room.

Yes, and right next to one another. My cloner sits on the floor right directly next to the veg table, in the same room. I have a little 2' shop light hanging over the cloner, which is just at the level of the tops of the vegging plants less then 1' away.

That's good to know. Thanks
