I had a friend who had a lightmover with his grow, it was a long beam something like this

the light would move left to right on a motor thus giving the plants more light from better angles
where do i get one of these and what are they called?

They are called by a few different names, one being a light rail, you can find them at various hydro stores. I dont want to plug some ones stuff for them on this sight so just look at a few online stores,they have them.

has nayone ever tried McGyvering a garage door opener rail to use as a light mover. I was looking at one the other day. Only wanted a couple bucks for a used one. Shouldn't be that difficult for someone with electrical experience. The only draw back I thought of was noise. But if it's only moving a light...at a very slow speed...maybe it wouldn't be as noisy as opening your garage door.

light rail is by far the best on the market.
a little under $200 and worth every penny.
i have a hydrofarm mover sitting around doing nothing if anyone wants it.

What are the key differences between the Hydrofarm mover and the Light Rail? More specifically, what makes the Hydrofarm mover useless?

the hydrofarm runs on a chain and travels the length of track, kind of like a garage door opener
the light rail kinda runs like a monorail with the motor driving the wheels. you can adjust the length of travel and the time the motor will stop at each end.
i like them because you can get the light right on top of the plants. you can run a 1k 8" over the tops and not even worry about burning a thing.

I bought my intelli drive light rail used.The guy I bought it from used it fer about 4 years,I ran it fer 3.The only thing I ever replaced or fixed on it was the rubberband like things on the wheels,it gives em traction,they were like 2 bucks ta replace.Out side of that the thing worked flawlessly fer 7 YEARS STRAIGHT! And like TrustNoOne said they are silent.The Hydrofarm is ran with a roller chain and after a while makes quite abit of noise,not ta mention kinda jerky as it moves.Plus it's jus made awhole lot less sturdy.There's no doubt in my mind if a person were ta see the two side by side runnin,yud pick the light rail every time.They're worth every penny! My 2 pennies.lol Take care...BC

but anyway, get a light rail 3.5 and you'll love it.
i should add that the rails work best when your canopy is as even in height as you can get it. a combo of lst and blocks under the buckets work best for me.

You want a light mover? Search ebay for light rail 3.5 Complete set or kit

check hydropenic emporium OR someshit they will be the cheapest with the full sets. Have the shit shipped to a safe house.

Not all hydro shops on ebay are narcs actually probally only a couple but if the shit is sent to a safe house you should be fine. Its not illegal to buy or own a light mover.

go to a local hydro shop and have them set you up.
keep your cash local with mom and pop shops. support your local economy even if it cost you a cuople of more dollars.
cheapest is all good and shit until you need warranty help or good experienced grow advice.

Ebay isn't that bad.. I've bought lots of stuff off of Ebay. No problems...
If you need to just use a money order to pay for it. Ebay has lots of good stuff...
