Lighting

Hey fellow noobs, I am ready to go with my first after a delay (funding). I'll be starting a diary for it, it's a two plant cab grow, probably Grapefruit, under 400w lighting.

Quick question: someone told me to get a circuit breaker for my light, but a mate who is an electrician told me it will me fine running the light and ballast straight off a plug timer, I don't want to blow anything, your thoughts please.

May all your grows be fruitfull.

you should be fine using a normal 15amp grounded outlet timer....400w is about the size of todays newer pc's powersupply some even go to 1000w and dont use a dedicated breaker...if you plan on upgrading you can run all new wires and make a breaker box and outlets...i just use a surge protector with a built in breaker...never had an issue but im running 250w but 400w aint that much really...but if your mate is a qualified licensed electrician then your fine with his advice! good luck man and do make a grow diary with some nice pics and list your equipment...

Only thing I use is a timer and a surge protector and has worked for years. :)

400w light with ballest is only 4 amps at the most. maybe another 1.5 amps for fans and extras and thats 5.5 amps most outlets have 15 amps available but keep in mind that also includes what ever else is drawing power in the room like room lighting, window AC, computer, etc...

figure for 13 amps max per breaker in a 15 amp setup. If you know the watts your using just divide that number by 110 to get amp usage.
