Hi everyone thanks for taking to the time to read this. I have been doing a lot of reading and i cant seem to answer this question on my own. :1help:
Alright here is the deal, i am looking to replace my current cabinet with one that is 48" tall, 36" wide and 20" deep. What size HPS should i use? (CFL were easy, i would just add more if needed) Also is this space to big for a personal grow? ( im looking at 3-5 plants at a time)

Thank you, im so glad to hear this, i can't image the heat that a 600 put off, although this is the first time i will use HPS, im sure i have no clue of just how hot a HPS will get....

I'll keep pimping them until everyone in the states knows about them. :)

I'd go with 8 55w PL-L lamps for a total of 440w. Look into LST or Scrog for maximum yield. You'll have more smoke than 2 people can comfortably go through. :)

The main benefit is going to be cheaper cooling and 'making it stealth' costs. :)

WOW!!! that was a lot of reading. Has anyone else had success with these? Will these work better than a 400 HPS?

I wouldn't say they'd work 'Better' than a 400 HPS, at least not in the same setup. You'd actually have 440w of light if you went with PL-L and more flexibility.

HTG supply sells a nice little reflector with 2 55w PL-L sockets in it for 110w but I have yet to see any densely packed reflector setups.

To maximize your yield with these lamps you have to treat them like a T5 setup and either Scrog, LST or supercrop to get the most benefit from them. Also, using them in a small area with side reflectivity helps a great deal.

If you're growing for just yourself, a 220w setup will bury you in smoke. A 440w would ensure you have either time to chill between grows or extra smoke to play with edibles. Either way you'll spend significantly less money cooling the PL-L's vs any HID lamp you get. Hands down. ;)
