Lighting Opinions

whats up every1?

alright i have been running a digi 600hps in a gutted half bath for about a year or so now. total dimensions are 5.5x5 ft. actual growing space is about 3.5x5.
i was thinking of adding another 600 but would a 1000 watter be more beneficial to me? i thought that space may be stretching it a bit thats why i wanted 2 600s but then i lose the penetration of the 1k. also a one light setup is easier to maintain and adjust also. also heat is not an issue at all with current setup i am actually having to heat it some.

Opinions ? . . .please.

How much supply capacity do you have?

How much supply capacity do you have?

How much amperage can you safely push through the circuits that you have in proximity to the lights? Too much light for a 5X5 area can be overkill/wasteful. I would go with just one light for that area and keep the 600 as a spare--if Phillips ever releases a 600 watt CMH bulb you could even use it for veg stage in the future.

i agree about the too much light can be wasteful/overkill also.

amperage is no problem, dedicated 30amp for lights and dedicated 20amp for fans and anything else i need to run so no problem there.

the cmh lamps seem nice for veg and flower both but i have a seperate area to veg.

but i think the 600 now is lacking a lil bit in this area and i dont know weather i should go for light dispersion or light penetration. i occasionally run a scrog so the 600s would be great for that but right now i am running small 3-4 ft or so untrained plants. just want an overall better setup as far a lights go.

What are your heat levels at right now and how are you cooling the room?

How much are you yielding now and how much do you need? It might be possible to increase the output of your current setup without adding another light. :)

heat levels are more or less where i want them to be in both summer and winter.
right now my setup is can66 filter > light>vortex 6" > out the house.
i use a variable speed fan controller to put my temps and humidity where i want them and it is never wide open even in the hot summer, i am even having to heat the space a little bit now.

temps are not a problem the hottest i have ever seen it get to was about 78 f and the fan controller was not on high speed.

i want to change the setup because i can see in the plants that the ones off to the sides are never doing as well as the rest, as far as growth.(all cloned)
just thought that with manageable temps i have why not go on up to a bigger light or add another,

i also want to change my ventilation setup some while i am at it, i would rather just cool the light(s) from the crawlspace to the attic (no air exchange in the house) and save a lil on heating and cooling the house, and just clean and exchange the air in the room with a smaller fan and filter.

sorry for the long post, i just want to be clear on what i want to accomplish.

Your the BIG BOY.

I pretty much raise girls, but they really LIKE 1000W HPS, my buddy on the other hand grows all floroecent - and does Ok -

bigger lights require better ventalation and better cooling - which costs more- and consumes more power - in some cases this isn't an issue, in some cases it is. If it's not an issue - I'd go larger, which SHOULD contribute to a larger harvest and I REALLY LIKE LARGER HARVESTS.

lol. . . big boy. . . thanks for the reply rockymount.

yea i like bigger harvests too, just trying to figure out what would be best for my situation. but i am leaning towards the single 1k just because i wont have to manage two lights, also the 600 could be a spare, plus i am not really digging the "cool tube", the light dispersion really sux i am gonna go with an "air cooled hood" instead of the traditional cooltube.

cmon peeps what do i need to do to get some suggestions?

Add some well distributed blue!!! Tighter nodes and buds. well placed halide or 2 or a cmh on mover. the ballance of photon production across the spectrum will yield more, frostier buds. But, then again I hate HPS and I am biast.

Best of luck with whatever you end up choosing.

As opposed to floro growers which are "ballast"?

Not that I am the "starter"

or....

am I?

excuse me while I go light up some Strawberry Diesel.

Not sure I follow ya! I hate HPS as they leave out so much of the spectrum. Flouros have their place and are quite impressive when the creativity of the micro guys get going.

For me HPS is the bang. If a person has HPS and wants to improve results I say switch to cmh or add blue.

No harm done or feelings hurt, I honestly was too "hazed" to get it!!LOL
