lightbulb closeness to reflector....

i can move my bulb closer or farther away from my reflector, how does this affect the overall lighting? it's only a 250hps and i don't need that much of a light print, should it be closer then, to tighten up the spread of light?

the closer or deeper the bulb is to the reflector the smaller the foot print of the light
