Light Movers.......

I recently purchased a light mover and I wanted to hear from some of you that have had some experience with them...It is a 6 ft rail with a 1k light.

To me, spreading the lumens out sounds and looks good on paper, but how does it actually work out ?? Thanx

i heard they increase yeild , it just ads more complication to your grow room

I have been using one for 7 years now and the only problems I see with them is these:
1. They eat a little more electricity (big deal).
2. They make a little noise, but not much.
3. If you have air cooled hoods then it will be a hassle to hook up ducts that are moveable.
4. You have to figure a way for the cords to not get in the way when the light moves, but it's easy.
Besides those little issues, I love it.

1 Yes they do
2 Not all of them
3 Just give them enough play

A 6 footer is a touch long for just 1 lamp IMHO ... but you can rig them for 2. I use a 1K on a 4 footer and there isn't a bad seat in my "house".

You can also use only a part of the rail. I only use 4 foot of my 6 foot rail with one HPS lamp. Does your rail have delays at each end??

I have a Light Rail 5 with an 8 foot rail and an Add-A-Bar kit; also have another Add-A-Bar and 4 foot rail extension on order. The purpose of the 12 foot rail isn't so that the lights can move 12 feet... only moving 10-16", but the rail is to support the trolleys that are spread out. I could cut up sections of the two 4 foot pieces I have and make it work w/o the extension, but why bother?

The electricity consumption is practically nothing: the heavy-duty commercial drive motor uses 10 watts I think. There is some noise, but only if you're listening for it (on Light Rail motors anyways; hear the Hydrofarm chain one is a bit noisy). A little extra complication with ductwork and cords is an issue, but not much of one.

thanx for the input... I bought a six footer..It has gears on the ends of it..They relay for a good 30-45 seconds on the ends...
As 4 the cooling , I do have air-cooled hoods. To take care of the vent hose I am going to purchase metal curtain, like the ones to separate rooms, it has a good slider to it so I'm gonna hang it to the side of the light rail...
I have 2k hps and some t5's but I want to scale the power down..So i'm only using the 1k..
