Light mover or not?

So I am about to flower 15-ish plants. I have 3 1000w lights. HPS MH HPS is how they will hang over the plants.

Question.. Should I get a light mover on a 10 ft track?

The room is just about that long... The three 1000w lights would go back and forth. Any ideas as to why this might be a good or bad idea?

Thanks!

A light mover adds about 30% to the watts per square foot. imhe

and makes a bare bulb one hot sneaky sum bitch...watch your ass

Ok so you for it..

What about this though... Will there be potential problems by having the 3 1000w lights so close to each other on the rail? Like a foot apart from each other? Also which reflector should I use??

it would probably be a bit costlier, but setting up 6 hoods on a flip flop would probably put more light on the canopy than a mover (and not have moving parts)

X O X O X O

flip the lights from X to O every hour over the 12 hour light cycle...only ever have 3 bulbs running, but get so much light..which is better distributed over the room than a mover can do...

An eight foot track would be long enough. I agree a flip flop would beat a traditional mover but if you shortened your movement and used a timer so that it stopped every hour in the desired position you should be OK. My bias would be to cover 10 feet with only two 1Ks.

I am sayin it is a tool. every room is different

10 foot room would only require a 6 foot rail. I was picturing 3 bare 1000watt bulbs on three seperate movers....3000w actual. 3900 in effect

Hey Paladin420,
You're right on the six foot rail which is the standard length I believe? Do you run a mover with bare bulbs? I'm a fan of light movers and believe they can save money over flip flops depending on the grow layout. People criticize movers for contributing to stretch or not being stationary long enough for uMols to add up. A cycle timer would fix that...say 1 minute on and one hour off, for example. Long enough to move the light from one desired spot to another taking into account the pause on each end. Later.

I run multiple rails and bare bulbs (hav scars to prove it) In my veg room. I find the timers provided seem to work well when dialed in.

Hey sorry, the rail is in fact a 6ft rail. NOT 10!

But I am against flippers only because that means I need to buy 3 MORE ballasts at about 200 each... And 3 more lights. That... I cannot afford.

The rail takes 20 minutes to run from one side of the six feet to the other...

Which reflectors should I use for this set up though? and keep in mind I want 3 1000w lights on the mover together

Actually, I read that the plants like a single light going back and forth in a line. Most like the natural sun.

Some people tried other variations with results much like yours... Like the triangle or rectangular moving rails.

Also the circle, it seems to confuse the plants.. Though did your movers run in the same direction at the same time?
