Light height

I have a small grow (hydro) in a 4x4 tent. Had been lighting the ladies with a 400w HPS and 2-200w CLFs.

I replaced all the above mentioned lights with a 1000w HPS light. The lamp is mounted in a tube and air-cooled (155 cfm centrifugal tent fan). I pointed a small, rotating fan at the tops of the plants and underside of the lighting fixture and have constant breeze going.

This is my first grow with a big, honking light. How close can I have the light to the top of the canopy? I'm about four weeks into flower and (finally) have overhead room available.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I have the same setup only with 600w hps and i did have the prob with light being too close.I noticed that top leaves were turning downside, heat stress, pulled the lamp up little bit and now they are happy again.Test it out.All depends, looks like you got more air movement but check your ladies, intensive observation is all i can tell you.Im sure there is all sorts of scientifically constructed measurements but all grow ares are not the same.peace

i have a 600 and its a good 10-12 inches and i have been having good results..since its 1000 you might want a little more space? if your leaves are curling on the edges i believe they are trying to release excess heat that way so
