Light Bleaching

apparently i have a light bleaching problem. my plants are starting to look just like the example pic on the common problems thread. i can take pics tonight if you want.
i just changed my t5 out with a 1000w hps and it is happening. sooo. what other than moving the light up, can i do? how badly will it affect the plants, ect...
this is my 2nd grow and it didnt happen the first time, but i have much taller plants this time.
any info would help alot. thanks

Going from t5's to 1000w hid is a pretty dramatic leap in intensity. I would have probably given them a few days about three feet from the bulb and watched the progress as I lowered it from there.

raise the lights see if that works, could be an added heat problem also, a 1000w hps gets much hotter then a t5.

yeah i havent experienced this so i brought the lights down too far too quick i guess. i left em up for 1 20 hour cycle, but brought it down cause they looked ok. oopps!
so will the rest of the plant be ok after i raise it and stuff? i know the affected leaves wont heal, but if i raise it and acclimate them will everything be ok later?
oh btw, i do have an a/c unit in there so the heat hasnt been a problem time2unite. it fluctuates from 72-76.

thanks alot guys ill let you know how they heal.

oh, should i trim the bleached leaves from the plant to prevent any kind of spreading or leave them on there because they wont affect the rest of the plant?
thanks again

No, don't trim them...the damage is already done and won't spread on it's own. After a few days to a week, it'll stop on it's own normally as the plants get use to the light...but raising the lights is definitely a good idea to prevent further damage until they are use to it. Normally it won't show up on many leaves anyhow, so it's not that big of a deal IMO...

is it just the grow tip and the leaves around it that got burned? if so you could top the plant.
