Lesser of the evils? (Banks?)

Idk if this should be in the toker's den or security but I figured it was a bit better fit here...

so basically I am forced to open a bank account... I need help figuring out which bank to open an account at.

Before we go any further, I KNOW, BANKS SUCK!!!

I don't like the bank or ever want to deal with them, but it is hard to live a lifestyle like that in these times.

Basically I have a family member that has a bank account for me but it is closing very soon and has to be transferred to another account. I have no bank account at the moment so I have to create one.

Where would you trust (if thats even the word) to have your money transferred?

This account would strictly be used to transfer the money and then would probably be withdrawn shortly after. possibly use it as a checking account once I get a job.

Am I over thinking this?

Local bank or credit union would be my choice.Be aware of your paper trail though.

Put your money in a water proof safe and put it in a plastic bag and then buried it far in the woods with a map to find it again. The bank is a nightmare.

If it's just a temporary account that you're going to close out shortly,
maybe just go with the closest bank that you don't totally despise - I'd look at a smaller local or regional bank and stay away from the multi-national world-wrecking motherfuckers just on general principle. But once you get a job, see if your workplace is associated with a credit union - it's hard to live without at least one bank account and credit unions are the best choice IMO.

I'm actually quite happy with my current bank (but have been unhappy with previous ones in the past), so shop around before you sign up!

A few benefits of my bank that you might want to look for, which my previous bank didn't have:
- no fees (some banks charge you monthly just for having an account with them, wtf!)
- I can use any ATM machine in the country, it doesnt matter which bank it belongs to because they reimburse me the $2 withdrawal fee
- high competitive interest rates

Any SMALL local bank or credit union.

The small guys have to be smart and prudent lenders to survive.

I don't leave anymore than a months expenses in ANY bank.

If you don't hold it ...It ain't yours.

I take deposits of up to $10000 and you can have it back with lots of interest whenever you want. There are no fees at Bank of Skull either if you are worried about that. Cheery O! look forward to hearing from you soon.

what are things to be worried about leaving on your trail?

you should invest in some prime coastline real estate in Nicaragua, it's complex..

too complex for me to understand... :joint:

I agree, I need to transfer the money somewhere though!

seriously though the whole thing is a russian doll of toxic bubbles run by what are technically psychopaths (by all definitions), and lately twitter reading "super" computers for some reason which have even less empathy if that is possible, all propped up by a fake usurious system that prints debt out of thin air and ruins the simple yet fragile concept of currency in the first place by charging interest..

the banking system catastrophe isn't over either, by a long way..

if you must just pick any one and try not to let it bum you out about what they are, you dont have many choices really..

Pay attention to the minimum balance the bank requires, if you go below they'll hit you with a fee dropping your balance even lower. And if youre planning on taking it all out, see if theres a penalty for doing that before a certain amount of time lapses.

I don't use or trust banks. If I needed one, Id go with a credit union.

hmmm, you need to shop around too :) my bank doesnt rob me like that -- i can have a balance of $0.01 for as long as i like and there'd be no fees.

At the end of the day, if you are paying ANY fees at all to your bank you're getting $$$raped$$$ ... sorry, but there's no other way to put it. They should be paying US (interest) for the privilege of being able to hold our money, as my bank does.

So many people pay more $$$ in fees each month than they make in interest... it's ridiculous. But it's their choice for going with that bank and accepting to choose ridiculous fees.

Again ... SHOP AROUND!!! :)

Dude I'm surprised no one has said it, pre paid visa/ masta card baby.
I'm not rich so I don't have that much extra cash but my money goes on one of those, my family. (Wife and kids money) b of a yeha I know but they are every where
If u sign up online there is no min and no charge for their ATM and free for grocery
I'd never use their card at a hydro shop. But green dot ect any pre paid is golden
No names I just pull my hat low when I use it lol..
Maybe I'm naive but it's worked so far good luck buddy banks and paper trails scare me,
He'll I don't even like buyin beer with the b of a card
(I'm a square that only eats and drives lol)

yes get a bank account. AND DONT PAY FEES. I use one of the bigger banks for my checking no min balance, no fee on their side if I use other ATM. I think it has to do with direct deposit....most big banks like that....and they got a shit ton of ATMs, so I like the convenience. I generally don't keep much more than monthly expenses in there.

for my savings I use tiaa direct....it pays 1.25% which is better than most CD accounts so it flexible when I want to invest or pay of my mortgage early. the only scary thing the lowest I could set my ATM daily withdrawal limit was a $1000..so the card I destroyed.

(got to have income of course) credit cards offer 1% cash back so I use it for almost everything and pay the balance off in full...pennies turn into nickles, dimes and quarters. use credit responsibly if you need to. I have been with them a number of years, occasionally call to see if they are willing to lower your interest rate. now should I ever need it, I got the lowest interest rate possible. Funny thing is that the company always sent me offers to open up a checking account. first $50,75,100...I took the bait when they offered $200 for 6 months. I kept the min amount in there, I just had 2 checking accounts for the 6 months. they re invited me a year later for $50...I will wait till they offer me 200 buck for the trouble.

keep your credit score high and don't go for crazy loans. I swear my friend was paying 22%APR for car...thats fucking nuts in my book.,,and there is even worse out there.

dont keep illicit money in bank...as we all know money does grow on trees:smokeit:

oh and good luck on the job.
