HUMBOLDT SEED ORGANIZATION - LEMON KUSH HEADBAND

Greetings and welcome, this is going to be my first grow journal over here at ICMag. All kinds of constructive criticism is appreciated.

My DIY microbox is 25x24x50cm in size, the ventilation is taken care of by a single 120mm Noctua computer fan hooked up to an adjustable 6-12v power supply, I'm using ONA blocks as my odor control, even though they don't work too well. The light source is an overpowered, unsuitable for micro environments, 150w 6500K industrial COB LED fixture. It gets the job done, but is really harsh on the plants and tends to grow them into weird shapes.

I chose the strain just because HSO has never let me down. The seed was a freebie from a seed vendor.

Lights: "150w" 6500K COB LED fixture
Substrate and container: Coco coir and a 2.4 liter plastic container
Nutrients: Advanced Nutrients pH-Perfect Sensi Coco Grow & Bloom. Rhino Skin. (First grow with these, used h3ad's formula before)
Ventilation: 12cm Noctua computer fan running on 9 volts

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 0: The plant has surfaced. Before planting the seed I rinsed the coco with water and 1ml/l of Grow A & B.

Day 1: I moved the plant into the microbox and began counting days.

Hi,
Nice picture. I will be watching this. I have used ona block before and it worked great for me. The block worked great with only one hole in the lid. The block lasts a long time if you only poke one hole in the foil lid and then screw the cap back on.

Nice cab!

Did you make the LED fixture? Why 6500k over 2700k or 3000k?

I flowered once under 6500k and my plants grew different compared to 2700k. They never seemed to really finish under 6500k. Could be the spectrum more than too much light causing them to grow into weird shapes.

Looking forward to watching this round.

Thank you. The light was bought from eBay, it's a brandless chinese one. It does okay in flower due to it's intensity, I've always just preferred higher color temperatures. I've grown with so many different types of light sources, that I'm convinced the strange ultra compact growth is simply due to the amount of intense light coming from all directions.

Here's a previous plant grown in the cab.

Nice.

I'm follower allready.

I have 40*40*100cm box with mars reflector (i know, everyone hates them) 48*3 (80 real watts ). Hoping to sog 36 plants perpetual.

*Edit*

Sorry guys... double post. I'd delete it myself but I can't figure out how to do that.

Day 9: The plant is growing a bit slowly, also there's some burning on the leaves. Still trying to figure out the nutrients, I've been giving 1ml/l Grow A & B every time the top of the coco dries. Maybe I'm not feeding enough?

The previous grow was a Sweet Seeds Cream Mandarine F1 FV, freebie.

If my understanding is correct, more blue in the spectrum is what would cause compact growth. Since 6500 is pretty deeply blue shifted that would certainly explain it. As the other poster mentioned more red shift in your bulb is better for flowering. Usually with LEDS people use a mix of blue/reds depending on if the light is going to be used for veg(more blue) or flower(more red). With white COBS one may do something like mix 2700k(red shifted with 5-7k(blue shifted) or just use a daylight bulb at 4-5k.

Not sure about the spectrum of the light, I know a lot of 4000K CFLs for example have more red than their 2700K counterparts. When I used to grow with CFLs I always got better results with 6500K as opposed 2700K, more trichomes and more potency. I use 4200K bulbs in my CDM fixtures as well. I also own a few of the "pink" LED grow lights, but I think of them as supplemental lighting.

[edit] The 6500K was the only color available, I've seen "grow light" versions that look identical to this one, but the wattages are all over the place ranging from 75w to 200w, the 75w seems the most legit.

Day 20: I topped the plant some time ago and I've removed the larger fan leaves, just because I felt like they took too much space. I've been giving the plant 2ml/l Grow A&B and Rhino Skin.

You did a really nice job of keeping the growth inside the box. Did you take the most recent photos right after watering it? Looks pretty droopy.

The leaves and stems are sturdy, they're just getting a slight claw, shouldn't be a nitrogen issue as the plant is sort of pale. There's no chance of over watering as the coco is fully dry in one day.

Hi, psyphish!
Have been watching your thread and eventually made it to write here ))
Nice grow you got - the plant is rocketing under that beast LED light.
And I should say that the other plant you flowered in the box looks just great!

Is Lemon Kush more indica strain? The leafs are so wide... or it's because of the light?
growing in coco seems to be awesome. What is an average pull per plant in a 2.5l of coco?

Soil and cfls look soo oldschool already .

:tiphat: Thank you and welcome.

Yes it should be more on the indica side, not sure how the Headband part of the genetics changes the high, I haven't smoked LKH yet.

I've only measured the Cream Mandarine I grew previously and I got about 45g dry, but I'm sure you could easily yield more if you gave the plant more space to grow and managed to get the light further from the plant. 60g should be about the maximum you can fit in this box.

I find soil a very difficult medium to grow in, never had a healthy plant in soil.

The plant died, the exhaust fan had broken down yesterday and the plant had burnt to a limp crisp. Sorry for the disappointing ending. I'm not sure if I'm going to change the fan and grow in the box again as I'm in the middle of building a new, slightly larger one cab.
