Hello guys! i need help pretty bad and fast,

I swapped my fans in my Mars 900, and i dident even try it for 2minutes with the orginal fans, so im unsure how HOT it will be if u take ur hand under the lens in the orginal condition.

Is their anyone here with a mars unit that can tell me how hot ur unit is from 1 to 10? where 1 is cold as f*** and 10 is exaclly so u have to take your hand off?

My unit is like now a 8. and my small small small apollo 150W is maybe a 2.

Is this something i should be afraid of or this big panels is hot to touch under? i have nothing to compare to guys! please help me im thinking of this constantly

i replaced my fans also mate
replaced them with crosair 60cfm 30 db fans and they keep it cool
may i ask wot fans u used and there cfm rating?
also do u have the positioned right? ie pushing air onto the heatsink? rather than extracting air out the top of the led?

Cool! but how hot are they was my number one question :D

I replaced them with some schythe 11db 800rpm fans with 40cfm, so i guess they are not optimal for the heat issue but they are good for my silent issue,

But how hot are your unit man?? im freaking out if its okey or not if i have to change them or if its okey! Update me whats ur status on ur heat right on the glass?

yeah a mars 900w is 400w actual draw so will be fairly warm
i reckon ure fans are adiquiate tho:)
thats if they are pushing air onto the heat sink and not drawing it away from it
if u put the fans on wrong way it will get much hotter

So if u lay ur hand under ur unit u "nearly burn" yourself? and want to take your hand off direcly?

Im sorry i have mars 700 i wrote wrong, 2 fans. 800rpm 40.2cfm

Because my apollo 150W is "ice cold" to touch.
Thats why im hysterical and wonder how hot your unit is when u touch it on the glass.

A Lumigrow Pro 325 (actual watts) is barely warm with the back of my hand on the 5x9" LED window.

That wasent good at all for me to hear! but lumigrow is also alittle diffrent from normal panels.

Anyone can answer me with a mars? or maybe blackdog blackstar or whatever lookalike panel?

Someone at all? =( dont let me hanging when u sit here and read!

blackdog is about the same temp as a lumi from ones ive been around.

And with that u mean that they are nearly cold to touch direcly on the lens surface with ur hand?

Sounds to good to even been true =S a big blackdog with 350actuall draw watts and over

I have a mars hydro in a smaller area then suggested (3x2') and mine doesnt get very hot. It gets progressively warmer the longer it is on. If you have your hand an inch or two under it..its a little warm...but not as warm as a 400 watt hps. The glass itself doesnt burn if you touch it.

Can I ask why replace the fans? does this make it cooler?

Hello! thanks for ur help mate, i just orderd new fans because this means my fans is to bad for the job, it says 40cfm but i cant understand how it can be so much when they dont work.

My glass nearly burn my hand and the metal case is pretty hot,

I have only run them for 2h, they are off now and will be off untill new fans arrive, crap!

thanks for ur help guys, this fans is to bad for the work, will use them in my computer they are so quiet i cant hear them.

they dont make it cooler, they make it more quiet, thats why i changed them, the orginal sounded like and airplane taking off.

Peace!

Really? mines has a hum sound but its not loud. Maybe because I have an inline fan that drowns out the sound of the light. Your ambient temperatures are prob higher then mine are which is why your light is so hot.

I looked at the specs for this light here:
http://www.mars-hydro.com/mars-ii-led-grow-light-900w.html

It isn't a 900 watt light, it burns power at a rate of about 431 watts. Still, that's a good chunk of power. Imagine if you had a 430 watt light bulb in your hand. Ouch!!

But, all the power does not radiate as heat. The reason you buy these things is that they are very good at converting energy input into light output. Light is a form of energy. Even if we assume that 50% of the energy input converts to light and radiates away, that still leaves about 200 watts of heat. (I don't think the box converts 50% to light, this is just an example).

Still, the output side has 270 square inches of surface to distribute several hundred watts, (I would guess about 300 watts as heat), so that's only one watt per square inch and I would think that would be noticeably warm, but not almost at the painful limit.

As a guess, I would say that something may be obstructing your air vents. It is very important to allow complete freedom for air to enter and exit. It must pull in fresh cool air, not circulate the same warm air. when you have replaced the fans and had the enclosure open, did you check to make sure there is no vent obstruction? Does the fan pitch increase as you close the box up? If fan pitch goes up noticeably, either the input or output is obstructed.

Have you contacted the manufacturer? They should be the best authority to tell you exactly how warm each surface will get. They may also have some information on what could be wrong or some factory test data on your exact unit. I'm not really sure what they have, but it would be more than we do in this forum.

no where near burn yourself
i cant stress enough and havnt seen u answer this but have u got the fans the right way around and blowing air onto the heatsink
ive done 6 changes of fans on different mars models and only time ive got burning heat is when the fans aint right way round

Thanks guys for ur help, i now installed 1500rpm 51cfm 17db fans, i will try this for couple of hours now and see what happens, i hope for better results.

it seems to move faster but not like WOW THIS IS FASTER.... but i can feel some small diffrance of push in the air vents out from the panel, maybe that little more power is enought to get it out correct.

I have one more question when i have 2 others with mars units here.

I have my mars 700 in a pretty small area with panda film, Are ur room super purple like all LED pictures? my room is nearly as bright as a normal lamp. Not really normal but its more white then purple.

And this is full standard spectrum.

Anyone ? =S
