Led Metal Cab Stealth Grow SCROG

hello everybody! I have a couple of spare Led units + a few 5k daylight cfls, some seeds,a nice spare metal cabinet....and it dawned on me why not

+ who doesn't want to get out of the market and supply your own. YES PLEASE

I'm a longtime reader, avid hobbyist, and after touching up a few weeks on other cab/led grows + a healthy dose of natural curiousity - I figured I' just might give it a shot.

I'd appreciate all feedback with the current equipment/ plans I have, and greatly appreciate any advice & help.

I'm particulary inspired by @hybridtek IKEA grow and figured something of that sort would suffice without the can ( too loud/out of the budget) and with soil- so a few differences of course.

I do have previous experience with a couple outdoor grows (minimal effort & luck), as well as with leds.( I used to be a coral enthusiest and indeed these babies can grow and compete with halides for sure ** but thats a different plant/animal/conversation entirely)

Anyway down to the knitty gritty, once the specifics are aligned germation here we come.

DETAILS-

Basement grow space so lower ambient temps

Metal Cabinet
Grow Cab space-
L-2.85 ft W 1.41 Ft H 4.91Ft = about 20 cubic feet / 4 sq feet.

Looking to grow 2 maybe 3 ladies-
SCROG in 3 gal smart pots- to maximize yield

Soil will equal parts of FF ocean Forest,Light Warrior, Happy Frog + perilite.

Veg/ Flowering cabinet only
Two 120W Led Units w/ 90 Optics = 240W **at full (I know this of course isn't a 100% accurate after reading numerous forums but you get the gist)

Now here's where it gets tricky - as of now here's the layouts of the leds (utilized full spectrum for corals)
Both my fixtures have this layout
Layout120wFullSpectrum_zps53a9b918.jpg

As you can tell the wavelengths are a little different than the requirements of that of chlorphyl plants. Alot of blue and that 12000k isn't really doing much is it?

Perhaps I could replace a few to make it more efficient with something like this
Layout55x3wVivariumManualDimmers_zps5b8001e1.jpg

So my question is, should I pony up the cash and buy single 3w bridgelux led diodes - replacing some blue and 12 k with more in the 4500k/6500k/ 640nm spectrum.

Or should I just sell this gear to fellow reefers and cop up the cash for some white cobs ( seeing as some people are getting decent results seed to flower)

I just figured I already had these so, I don't know help me out folks!

REQUIREMENTS-

HAS TO BE STEALTH- odorless, quietish. ( no fan is quiet I know)

Cabinet blends in with room decor, and a humidifer or heater is usually running. Townhome style house- rarely if ever see landlord- and he's inherited the biz and doesn't really give two shits. but still live in a state thats def not co or wa.

I like the idea of doing this scrubber from a fellow member
picture.php

With all the feedback about S&P's or inlines it just moves too much air in the room to not be obvious also don't wanna drop the 100+ atm.

Looking to yield enough plants for personal use in between grows. I approx smoke about a quad a week or a lessish depending on the equipment and social agenda. Perhaps this is doable?

i made that kind of filter once, didnt work for shit, no airflow, took a tube, mesh sheets around it, nailed together, removed tube and used that with carbon, about 200x more surface

Thanks for the advice on that design for the scrubber. Suppose I'll have to grab some extra wire materials at the casa depo...and go the more cylindrical route- have definitely seen some forums with the design you're describing- though I'm somewhat unsure of its effectiveness with PC fans. Anyone else care to chime in?

i did the pencilholder thingy, populair here too, and that worked fine with a 80mm fan on 12v, its just the square shape that makes you lose so much surface (and so less airflow)

Pencil Holder Filter

Pencil Holder Filter

The pencil cup filters wont control heat and smell at the same time. By the time you get the airflow high enough to keep temps down, smell leaks through. Save yourself the trouble, buy an S&P TD fan and a phresh filter and forget about smell for 9-12 months.

The pictured filter above has worked out well for me over the last 4 years. It got a little hot when I was running the 100w cmh but since I switched to cree cobs and moved the heatsink into the ceiling of the cab to dump the heat outside the grow area it has worked great. I'm cooling over 100w of leds between the veg area (20w) and flower area (90w). Even with ambient temps in the 80s.

It controls the odor very well. The surface area is enough for pc fans and if you want to grow something extra stinky you can always increase the depth of the charcoal at the loss of airflow.
