LED manual?

From the time i started using LEDs , i had problems with my plants. Either the tips of the leaves were getting burnt ,either the top buds were getting white , plants were stretching uncontrollably , or they stopped growing taller at all! Im using EverGrow Saga Sco-560w LED grow light and i grow in soil.I find it very diffucult to calculate the correct distance from LEDs to plants cause my LEDs have 3 buttons , one for the white colour lights , one for the blues and one for the reds.I start with the whites for the first week and then i turn on the blues while closing the whites and the next week i open both ,and so on with the red lights .The total watts of my LEDs is 560 . So i can search in the internet for a general rule for plant to LEDs distance for the specific watts im using but this rule doesnt apply if im not using all the 560 watts at the same time( for example having only the blue lights on).Im a bit confused!
Thank you for instance! :woohoo:

Have you thought of contacting the company?

I know it may seem a simplistic reply but it may be the best way as I've never heard of the brand you have.

Id probably advise getting a PAR meter such as an apogee sq120 or sq500.. then you can gauge the distance and also photoacclimatise your plants.. :tiphat:

Hi mimistow :tiphat:

These distances works for me - and my three different LED-lights (115W, 230W and 460W).

rule is light angle and watts,, say 400w per m2 is enough,,,, than you have 560w so if 400w is enough for m2 than 560w is for 1,4m //so 1,2mx1,2m around//,, light angle would be around 120// i think so// so more than double ,,lighting area,, than length from light

so light up everything 560w,, say around 0,6m from plants//1,2m x 1,2m + lamp wideness and longness///

White tops, usually bleaching
Lots of stretch, using just red?
No stretch, using just blue?

My guess is that you always have the white ones on, and supplement grow with blue and flower with red. Or you could just use white. Or you could just use blue and red. But never just blue or just red.

I'm with burmese. 560w should cover a 1.2 tent from a couple of foot above. Any more is going to need some experience. Less would be better for sick plants. You didn't actually talk grow space or ratio of leds though.

That right there. I have a PAR meter, you don't have to break the bank on one, and it is far better than feeling the heat on the back of your hand or a n"measure" distance. A PAR meter will tell you what is going on at the canopy. :tiphat:

Hi Mimistow,
Go to the Lumigrow site...they have some good downloads that may help. T run their 650 and it has individual knobs for reb, blue and whte.

My tent is 1x1x2(meters) .Now my plants are 25 days old from the day i putted the sprouted seeds in the pots, and the last week im using all the lights (white+blue+red).By the time the baby plants reach the surface of the soil i start using the white lights , after a week i open the blue lights and close the whites, then 3 days after that i open both whites and blues, after one more week i open reds and close blues (having the whites on) and after 2-3 days i use all the lights. The distance i keep from the plants is around 40 to 45 cm , but my croft is really weird. 2 plants stayed babies and the other two grew almost smoothly with some leaves twisted in one of them (where i think thats due to the wrong light usement).Temp at the top of the plants varies at 28-30C when all lights are on (i understand that this is a bit high but i cant manage to lower the temp having the lights at the specific distance).I follow a 18-6 schedule for the LEDs and i hope for the best :p ! :tiphat:

The light green colour is mostly due to the tint the white leds create.Under the sunlight the look darker.

Your lights are still too close. From my experience with LED, they are very intense for young plants (or plants going through any kind of stress). I had issues keeping mine at even 15" above (roughly 40cm) until they were well established. I'd personally recommend 24" above (61cm) for less established plants. Also, if these are the Autos you'd mentioned I'd be running the full spectrum of colors all the time (white, blue, and red) as their feed and lighting requirements are different than photo-period plants. Is there a dimmer at all on your LED setup? That may help with the intensity issues too.

My plants are critical+ 2.0 (dinafem) , my Leds do not have a dimmer. As almost all of you said , it seems that the lights are too close so ill enlarge the distance from 40 to 60 cm and see what happens. Also i am a bit afraid to run the full spectrum all the time cause i have a feeling they ll get burnt when they are going through their first week of growing above the soil surface. Finally can you think of any idea to save the 2 small ones that deny to grow :p ? They have the same age as their taller brothers.

Im not familiar with that light but far as I can tell that light draws 400 watts from the wall with everything on. The rule of thumb for high quality LED is 35 watts per sq ft. I’d go with white for seedlings, white and blue for veg and maybe through the stretch if you have height restrictions and all three for bloom. If you’re getting bloom bleaching raise it up.
