Leaves turning upward and starting to discolor

Hey all,

I have some Sterling Widow 15 days old from seed in soil.

I just transplanted out of Solos today into a temporary home(milk jugs)

Medium

MG Organic Gardening Soil
Premier Peat
Blood Meal
Bone Meal
Dol. Lime
Plant-Tone

I just noticed today that the upper leaves started turning upward and had some brownish-yellowish (more brown) coloration, non-specific in pattern, kind of like in the middle of the leaf.

I did let her get slightly root-bound, but hadn't noticed any issues until I transplanted today. She doesn't get nutes yet

Pics:

This is what she looked like at 12:00 lunchtime today.Just the upturned leaves, no dsicoloration or very little.

Then it started to get slightly worse as I left her out there today (Note my artistic skills with M$Paint :D )

Another shot

Then back inside this evening

Obviously, i'm perplexed and any and all help/suggestions are appreciated.

Peace,

Gro :joint:

EDIT:

I did go through the sick plants guide with no luck. I'm hoping someone can guide me here.

I'm betting hot soil may be one of the culprits..

hmm...

hmm...

Howdy Gro, did you use the same mix in the solo cups? Btw, there's no need ta add bone and blood meal when yer using Plant-Tone, it's already in there.

What ever it is, was caused by what was (or not) in the solo cups. Maybe being root bound? or not enough nutes in it. If yer mix isn't too rich now, I think they'll grow out of it. BC

Thanks brother :joint:

The mix initially was straight MG POTTING soil with perlite and lime and I did have some pH (very high-9) and hot soil (burnt tips) which they seemed to recover from once my pH issue was squared away.

The one pictured had NO ISSUES with the first mix, but she was root-bound when I put her in that new mix mentioned above(peat/BM/BM/PT/Perl/DL).

Thanks again for chiming in....hopefully I'll get this figured

Here's what she looked like this morning after wrestling her out of the solo

Yup, she was ready ta stretch her legs. I think along with bein rootbound, the nutes in the cup ( which wasn't much ) where prolly played out and she is/was starting ta use her resources, her leaves. I think it will grow out of it before too long. Soil is always kinda slow, so hang in there. Good luck, BC

I'm hoping that's just it.....she looks a little worse for the wear this morning and it's spreading to some other leaves.....I realize I just replanted yesterday, but I just want the best for my babies :D

Here's a pic from this morning

And as a reference, here are some lings 5 days old in the same mix

Thanks again for the input

Second day after transplant....

Second day after transplant....

It's been two(2) days since I transplanted my root-bound Sterling Widow and the affected leaves have really turned almost a coppery-gold in color

None of the new growth seems affected (fingers crossed)

BUT....I have noticed the start of the same issue on my #2 of the same variety.

#2 was just transplanted last night and wasn't AS rootbound as #1

I did check pH and dosed with Molass/Water for the cal/mag......hmmm

Anybody else have a clue ?

Thanks in advance

I would try bringing that pH up to the 6.3-6.8 range and try to keep it stable. If you're watering with hard water and using dolomite, you shouldn't ever have to add any other calcium source.

MG makes only 2 products that are of interest to cannabis growers- Perlite if no other source is available and seed starter mix. Everything else is shit.

The people who sold you the Premier peat may carry the Pro Mix line, which is very good.

am a big beliver in PH ^^^ agree (get that sorted and half that battle is won)....bring your PH up...you could slightly be locking out nutes (cal/mag)<<<<<thats what i was thinking looking at your pics of that leaf...

most things i read about MG is cap...the only good stuff thay have is the seeding soil. all the other stuff just burns the shit outa ya plants if not carfull with watering (to much water will release the nutes in the MG in 1 big blast)...

keep your eyes on new growth,,if thats cool then ya plant will come good...

keep it green

@WeedNinja - Yes, my water is extremely hard (well) and I've been pH'ing it to just under 7 to counter-act the low soil mix.

An added benefit of the Blackstrap is it's loaded with good shit (Brer Rabbit).....I'm trying to pin down this pH thing....I'm using the pH drops method and it's tough to get an accurate reading.

@theHIGHlander - right on man.....no distributors for MILES & MILES, but it looks like travel is my only option to get what I really want for my mix.

Any suggestions on testing soil pH guys ?

Thanks again for your input.

Peace,
Gro :joint:

Just testing your runoff pH will be enough Gro. 6.8 makes mine happy. I use MG soil.

I don't know about anybody else's experience, but my Widows did the same thing.

They tended to look pretty ratty for a while when younger with the leaf problems like you have.

I think it is strain related myself. Others have had the same experience as me.

They will grow out of it. Cheer up....

I can always count on my girl :D

I only had a limited amount of beans with the ssh x ww so I'm slightly aprehensive with them at the moment....

Hang in there! lol I think ya gottem outta those cups just in time. They'll pull through........ I would -strongly- suggest using compost or worm castings at 20-25% of yer mix next time. You won't -ever- have ta worry about PH again. The humus not only buffers the PH, but it also allows a plant ta feed on more and bigger cations and compounds of cations than it could before. That's just a few things it does, the list goes on... Bottom line, it makes plants very happy and vigorous. Carefree growin man! lol Just a thought. Good luck! BC
