LEAKY R.O. SYSTEM P.O.S.

for a while now ive been dealing with my stupid leaking RO setup, well im sick and tired of it, if i forget it it overflows my rez, making a huge mess.
the first problem is those stupid push in hose clamps, they SUCK, also a huge problem is my bottom right first stage filter right where the water comes in is a leaking POS, i tried changing the filter, cleaning the oring and mating surfaces, nothing, now it is getting worse to the point where i cant even use it with a bucket underneath, when i turn the water on it starts filling up the prefilter, before it is a quarter full it starts leaking from the threads right in front,
if i tighten it its worse, it is very frustrating, hopefully someone will chime in and tell me something like "change the oring moron":wallbash: i inspected the housing the filter screws to and couldnt find any cracks, any help will be appreciated

After much consideration, I recommend you change the o-ring, moron!

Actually, I have no idea to help with your problem other than to say: that sucks. Hopefully you can fix it, or better yet, pay top-dollar for a high-quality system that won't give you headaches...

you try spreading a little bit of vasoline around the o-ring or tubing before pressing it into the push fitting?

normally does the trick.

Try buying an RO unit that works. Why would you put up with shit like that for a $100 RO unit? You get what you pay for with RO units (and pretty much every other piece of grow room equipment).

merlin - last ro machine you'll ever need. pricey however, but well worth it.

I agree with all the above.

#1 If your RO doesn't have screw out fittings for each hose connection it's a POS and should be replaced. If a threaded press hose fitting leaks, replace it. I hope you're using teflon tape on the threaded fittings and a silicone based lube on the o-rings. They sell it at plumbing stores for use in jacuzzi fittings/etc. It's normally called something like "Wonder Lube" which always makes me feel like I'm buying something that should be way more fun later that night than it is.

#2 Float switches (with RO feed cutoff, they have 4 connection total) are cheap through aquarium suppliers.

#3 buy the EXPENSIVE pressure rated tubing. Not the $1 for 40 foot ice machine hose. The heavier stuff has a thicker wall and will engage the press in fittings more thoroughly and that alone w/o lube will solve most leak issues with that style fitting.

i bought a unit that worked for 2 years, it has a float switch, when the float switch engages it created too much pressure, i put new orings in today and its even worse, im going to try to contact the seller and ask him, but thanks for your input everyone

Ya, that's why you need the 2 way float switches that cut off supply to the RO system instead of cutting off feed from the RO system to the switch.
