leafs grew while seed was in the paper towel

It looks like I left the seed too long in the paper towel and it happened that the leafs started growing in there!!! (it was a very old seed and I thought it would take more days, but it happened to sprout so fast I not even noticed).

When I saw it, it had an awfully long root (fighting to establish itself) and the 2 little leafs were a little bit yellow (due to the lack of light, I suppose), but I planted it in the soil yesterday and after some hours the leafs had a better appearance and got greener, despite the leafs are still very little.

Besides, it didn’t grow straight, the stem has a curve and it is very thin yet, what I’m afraid that it may not have a very good support for the rest of the stages (if it survive until then). And now my bigger problem is that today, after I watered it, the stem is getting dark and the leafs going yellow, and I don't know why.

Any tips? I’m thinking about tying it up to a stick or bury it

Maybe add some more soil to give it more support.

Add soil right up to the leaf and in the future use solo cups that don't allow light to enter.

Light on roots is bad. ;)

You don't really have to add more soil you can just bury all the curved part and just leave the straight part above the soil also as troutman said clear isn't really good for root. But when cvh said add more soil I don't think he meant it like the plant absolutely needs more soil, I think he's just saying cover up that exposed bent part rather then taking the plant out and trying to replant it deeper. Btw the part of the stem you put below the soil will just become part of the root system. You could probably just get a same sized cup that is opaque (typically red or sometimes blue) and then put the clear cup inside the other cup, that way you don't have to disturb the plant trying to transplant it. The coloring of the stem looks normal to me, they do darken a bit as the get bigger and stronger. The leaves that are yellowing typically yellow and die off after the next set of leaves appear, this might be a little quick but now that the other leaves are showing that's what the plant will rely on for food now. The round leaves that are yellowing are mainly just their to give the plant enough nourishment to get the next set of leaves going. Maybe the age of the seed has something to do with them dying off this soon? If you want there is nothing wrong with putting a toothpick or small stick in the soil next to the plant to help give it support until it gets a little bigger.

To be clear this is exactly what I meant. Thanks Hempkat to assisting me, (this non-native English speaker). 🤗

Oh no worries and for the record I don't think you stated it improperly, but I could see by his reaction the OP was misunderstanding you.

I'm against supporting seedlings, let them fall over, they just strengthen the stem to stand up again. If you give them support, they don't need to strengthen the stem and keep growing. Then they always need support.
