Leaf tips being wierd. Yellow - Purple.

OK, first off thanks for popping in... this is my third go at this so my exp. level is still only 1 in Botony (Split class 1st Lv. Botonist and 5th Lv. Ranger :rasta: )

I've recently started training this plant into bonsai style. After topping it started bushing as expected. A week or two later (now) the older leaves of the newest growths have started turning colors on the tips... anywhere from red/purple to brown/yellow.

...anyways, here's my info...

Became an "issue" 4 days ago

Strain is just random bag seed

Raised from seed

6th week of veg

It would be 12" but I've topped it

Currently vegging.

As stated earlier, bonsai style

Two liter bottle

1/3 Miracle grow potting soil, 1/3 Organic Compost, 1/3 Perlite, all treated with 1 Tablespoon Hydrated Lime. (Note- Pumice rock on the bottom to retain soil and ensure oxygen to the bottom root zone).

Advanced Nutrients Grow and Micro, Molasses and natural stream water from a hardwood forest (Maple, Oak, and some evergreens such as Pine etc.).

Micro @ 1 Ml. per Liter, Grow hasn't been used yet, Molasses @ 1 Tblsp per gallon. Both fed only one time.

PPM/EC doesn't apply

I have no way of telling PH outside of observation of the specimen.

I water every 2 to 3 days

Last feeding was approx. 5 or 6 days ago with Micro.

6 Compact Floro's spanning from warm to daylight.

Relative humidity is 30% +/- 5%

Approx 77F at canopy level

Temperature stays the same throughout

Approx 100CFM airflow with oscillating fan passing directly on specimen.

Substrate is constantly moist, sometimes wet (I'm still getting used to this)

Using Tap ocasionally but mostly natural spring fed stream water.

Specimen has recently been pruned and topped (last week topped, every other day I take a leaf off if it's blocking a node site).

No pests

You can see a bit of yellowing on the first pic but can get a better feel for the situation in the second. I've also noticed pre-flowers on nodes 4-6, all of which appear to be Fem.

So what do you all think? Is it ebola? :joint:

By giving only the micro, you have given them N and a slight amount of K. The purple stems are a result of a P or K issue. What I would really recommend is that you buy some bloom nutes or something else high in P and K to make up for your deficiency.
If that's not possible, go ahead and give your grow formula.

This is my short answer, I'll try to give you a longer one tomorrow.

The MG soil/compost is burning them and the more you water, the more you will release the time release ferts and burn them more. Transplant to soil with no nutes and feed by liquids until you have a better feel for ferting.

Purple stems are usually a natural feature of MJ and not related to feeding unless an extreme case.

what did that thing look like before you topped it? Looks good bro!

Good question, I'll be happy to answer... Things went from this...

To this in a matter of about 2 weeks... I'm leaning them over and I topped two. All have been fairly heavily pruned and hassled so far.

Ok, and things have progressed very quickly over the past couple of days. I'm focusing in on only one of a few so far though all of them are showing some syptoms... I'm really betting it's the ph... and falling. I believe I'm seeing a couple of different syptoms from a couple of different deficiencies. PH and root bound. One reason I believe it's root bound is the plants are moving from being underwatered to overwatered with a small mount of water and almost need to be watered every day. Ahhh, what can I cay? Things really have turned on me... I found that spider mites had been feasting on one of the other plants... grabbed a couple of lady bugs from the window sill (it's cold, they often huddle in the corners of the window sills inside) and took care of them. Now it looks as though I might cut light, trim the roots and administer a little hydrated lime. Now all I need is your input and a little toke for motivation... :bashhead:

Oh, I forgot to mention; The leaf tips are turning a necrotic brown color and are curling UP INSTEAD OF DOWN. Old leaves are turning yellow from the tips toward the main stalk and is advancing by way of the peripheral.

It's looking more and more like a Mg deficiency. Perhaps a little dolomite lime will do the trick. This should take care of the suspected PH issue and will ensure Mg. is delivered for a long time... However I'm not too sure the roots aren't to blame... I'll have to take it slow. Lime first... not too much and if things don't clear up after this I'll transplant to bigger pots.

I would like it if someone else with more experience had something to say before I finalize my diagnosis: Mg deficient with possible PH fluctuation toward the acidic.

Do you concur?
