Ya.. my apologies for the diversions, i'm almost at the 50 mark so i can just PM you. Please tell us how things are going, you've been silent for a while now. Would love to see some more photos of those grapes - they were massive the last time you showed us around week 3.

Also, could you tell me a little bit more about how you have your 4 reservoirs set up? I'm interested to know what you keep in each one, and how you connect your plants to each based on their contents.

Let the show continue...

Lazy,

I'm interested to hear more about your idea of using a mini-split A/C. What's your current thoughts/needs, and what size were you looking to use? I'm not familiar with how the btu ratings compare to standard wall bangers or how they work. From what i've read they seem to be similar to standard house a/c units with a condenser outside and a cooling unit inside. Are there any other components or logistics involved in installing one, and do you have the knowledge to do this or were you thinking to hire someone? Please share any thoughts on your mini-split idea, i'm very intrigued..

What are your current day/night temps by the way?

Thanks!

Sorry guys, been busy trying to keep the heat from killing things. Was 104 this afternoon for a few hours, no fun! Sprinklers, misters and hoses, but I'm kind of a gardening and watering nut anyway, haha.

So things are going well, we brought in 50 plants a couple weeks ago and they're doing well, I've dimmed the lights to 50% so the room stays under 85. Heat wave ends tomorrow and the lights can go back up.

Dumped all the flowering barrels and hosed em out, flushed out the lines and refilled em all with RO and fresh nutes. Brought over around 90 babies in 4" pots, mostly GS and Jackpots. Blue Dragon didn't clone for shit! Whole tray died. Gonna try again next weekend though, the moms are monsters!

Took some pics too, got to upload about 4 dozen new pics, brb

No problem man, posted pics for you. Here is a couple shots of the blumats and how they plumb into a hose for a manifold:

Of the 5 barrels, one is for veg, 4 are for flower. I assume you're more interested in flower nutes, I outlined them a couple pages back, or are you looking for exact quantities?

The rule of thumb is 4k btu of cooling per kw of light, mini splits are more efficient than wallbangers or portables for sure. They require some vacuum pumping and of course wiring to install, not for amateurs. I'd check with your friendly hydro shop owner for the name of a reputable and discreet installer. ;)

So one big question still bangin the head or so used to it now ya don't even notice lol glad to see things still going well for ya lazy

LOL,I've learned to duck! I still get a good one about every few weeks, but it's better now. Good to see you bro, stop in any time!

Lazy,

Bro what the hell are you feeding them to get those foxtails? They sure look interesting, but i bet it's more work for the weight comparatively than you would like. My guess would be all that nitrogen you're adding when they start to yellow mid-flower, but maybe it's from something else..? The only time i've ever gotten buds looking like that was when I used too much cal/mag in week 6 during a heat wave. What are you feeding around the time they took off like that, and do you normally have major foxtails or is this some sort of freak show going on right now due to the heat?

I would love to hear your thoughts on foxtails (positive/negative) and if you intended for them to grow that way, or if it just happened as a side-effect of something else? Do you like foxtails..?

I know where I live such funky looking buds are completely undesirable, but i guess if you are growing meds for patients on a non-profit basis it doesn't matter all that much but either way they look like a ton of work hot damn!!!

That being said, I hope you get the numbers you need and may your garden stay healthy and strong!

From what I can tell, the foxtails are primarily genetic, but it could be a strain that doesn't tolerate even 80* temps. It doesn't happen to any other strains, only the grape stompers. Yeah they grow funky lookin buds, but they smoke great and yeah, my friends and patients don't care what the bud structure is, they want good smell, lots of frost, and a hearty kick. The GS meets all of those criteria, but I think it would prefer cooler temps so it had better purpling. AC's will fix that soon enough! Any good sativa will have light fluffy buds, even outdoors. It's a product of environment and evolution, the light fluffy buds grow well in equatorial regions without rotting, and I think the purple elephant in the GS qualifies. They do increase the volume of a given weight quite a bit, and burn faster, but hey there's more of it per p. ;) Indicas definitely tend to yield better, I guess I need to just go buy some strong sativas at a club if I want them.

whoa i didnt realize GS foxtailed like that...must have been the heat...do you have any cured pics? we had some sour grapes (i think maybe related to GS)....but they didnt foxtail at all came out dense and looking like grand daddy purple but with a OG kush taste...fucking awesome stuff

Hey bro, yeah it wasn't on all the buds, but a few of them defintiely went nuts with the foxtails. Most of the buds were just big chunks, with a few small foxtails that didn't really affect their shape much. I saved most of the more extreme examples in a jar at home, will take pics of them later but they look the same, just a bit smaller. Sour grapes IS Grape stomper, someone tried to change the name because they felt bad about ripping off Keyplay for his hard-earned breeding work. No OGK in it though, it's Purple Elephant X (Sour Diesel X Chemdawg) mom.

yea i know the origin of that sour grapes...the one that was in high times earlier this year. i wonder if its the same i have..because the grower who had ours isnt associated with the originators behind grape stomper. he had a bunch in his growroom, yeiled one round of really nice sour grapes that was the chemsourxpurple. then a male OG kush polinated his next batch and he got this whole crazy new looking bud that is real strong and dense like OG kush but has purple tint its crazy. im running those seeds right now.. il know what they look like in two months...lets compare them really interested to see how yours came out, maybe its like the crazy first batch of neon green/purple sour grapes that i saw last year. good luck with your grow mang.

hi lazy hope youre havin a nice weekend...question...do your 16k all go 12/12 together ?? do you do any staggering of timers ??

i have a whopping 2x430w vert. 12 hours light=9 hr per bulb, 6 hours full 860w, with three hours single bulb at begin/end of cycle.

i dont think anyone could say for sure whether this will help or hurt my yield/quality because of varying environments. i did it to lower summer temps by losing 430w hps for 6hrs a day...

all the best to you and your grow !!!

I think it's a bit interesting how all the talk is about going to a mini-split system, when many of you were mocking me on them not too long ago.

What ever happened to the superior so-called "water-cooled" system based on $10k+ ChillKing refrigerant-based cooling system jokes with water transport? How about the geothermal loop you were threatening to bury "just to piss me off"?

They are all 12/12 now, the timers kick on within one minute of each other (digitals.)

You insisted that they would not work, but that's not the case.

The ROI on a commercially-bought chiller system is over 5 years and not terribly portable. Especially with a geo loop. Since the ROI on it was longer than I will be growing at my current spot, I decided to save the project for a project where I can be there for 5 years to recoup my investment back.

No I didn't. I said it's impractical and worthless for anyone who doesn't have access to a near-free cold water supply. Don't put words in my mouth.

My rooms return a minimum of 2x the total investment at the first harvest, meaning equipment is paid for in just a little over a month, not 5 years. And it actually works, and I actually grow a ton of weed with it rather than just talking about it for months on end.

I've been telling you guys all this stuff for a while now though; nice to see you're finally starting to get it. It's like banging rocks together to make fire, and being excited about it.
