hiya all,was wondering if its ok to top and supercrop a few days before i flip, was thinking girls are effectively in veg for a short while when you first flip or would this stress plants too much and have i left it too late, girls are fem seed grown,,, do other people still top or s/crop a few days or so before starting 12/12? any opinions and ideas....thanks,,peace and regards s2

I've been known to supercrop up to and into flower. Sometimes on stretchy gals I'll be cropping 3 weeks after the flip.

yea its cool to supercrop up to 12th day in flower is what i would do don't top just supercrop which will help you in the stretch phase as well make some nice nugs

Can't speak for supercropping but I've had the best results from topping at least two weeks prior to flipping the lights to 12/12.

To add, I don't think I'd top a plant closer than 2 weeks out either. Supercroping though, different ballgame.

Beautiful crop, fever. I would go by growth more than the calendar. I'd prefer to top, and get at least a good strong node on each new shoot, then rely on the stretch to take over. I've pruned a 2 and 3 weeks in, but it affected yield. Of course, that's strain dependent. Good luck. -granger

never top your plants less than 2 weeks before budding and never during budding, your plants will not be able to recover the yield lost from stunting...i have a few plants i'll post pics of today, i have over 30 almost IDENTICAL clones, one of them had the top growth tip accidentally snipped off they day after i flipped. the difference is quite obvious, the main bud on that plant is going to end up almost non-existent and the side buds, while they are a little bigger than normal because of the accidental topping they aren't big enough to make up the difference in yield.

I've seen it a thousand times, bending plants, crushing stems, defoliating and removal of bottom nodes/branches, can all be used quite successfully during flowing but any type of topping will drastically affect yield. i say topping, meaning it's fine to snip off the bottom nodes, because those will probably only push out fluffy popcorn buds anyway...but taking one of the upper nodes off WILL lower your yield by as much as the size of the eventual bud that would have formed there, because often when you cut off main nodes during flowering, they will only be able to manage a small grape sized bud, instead of the 5 gram top that would have formed before you messed with it.

on another note, beginners might be better off growing their plants naturally, low stress training is often important but a beginner can easily turn low stress training into high stress training, and super-cropping?! really?! maybe i have my definitions wrong but the way i see it LST or low stress training, is pinching stems, tying down branches, weaving in a screen, defoliating...basically ways to train a plant that involve low stress levels but can beef it up...i have associated suppercropping with the practice of continually fiming and topping plants to get very bushy style growth...

am i wrong?! i just looked and found several references to this being the case...i feel like many people are confusing lst with supercropping...lst is ok during budding, but if supercropping really is all about topping and fimming to get a bush style plant, well you should never do that during flowering or even the two weeks leading up to it. TOPPING IS A NO NO DURING OR LEADING UP TO FLOWERING!

hiya,,,thanks senorsloth,,,my plants were topped 15 days[1 day over a fortnight] before the flip, i always grow from seed and have used supercropping to control canopy height and try to maximise yield, i believe s/c main cola increases stem thickness and encourages stronger lower growth, each to there own, plants seem to like it,,i think you can adapt s/cropping to your own needs, multiple bends or elbows widening the plant up etc, i also never associate topping with supercropping, two totally different practices,,peace and regards s2

cool 944 if you can keep cropping till you start seeing buds it will help control the stretch phase as well keep nodes tight here is a pic of 3 buds out of super crop during first 12 days of flowering

Supercropping to me is pinching FIMing and topping are something else..
LST (again, to me) is bending the branches without breaking any layers of the stem.
This is how I understood the definitions but I could be wrong :)

Now I've also heard supercropping can add to flower time. I don't know I've always played it safe and given at least a couple weeks after doing anything but bending.

hiya,,thanks for replys all, looks like your killing it again drf, take my hat off to you, buds llok beauties:tiphat: cant say if ive noticed in the past that supercropping may or may not prolong bloom period,i am not aware if thats is the cafe,i dont think soma mentions prolonged bloom when supercropping in his book..i would imagine it could be strain dependant but vthats just a guess,,,

Depends on your strain entirely. Super cropping takes time for the plant to grow into the desired formation, not one day. If u tried to super crop/top a small bubba or urkle days before flip you'd just end up with a lotta tiny side branches and popcorn, where as og is stretchy enough to put out decent side branching. If your not familiar with your strain just let it do what it wants. However it is a few days before flower is how you should leave it for flower, if your gonna top or supercrop givem an extra week or 2 to fill in. All this is strain dependent, u can't treat bubba the same as cheese or og or blueberry and vice versa.

When you flip to 12 /12 it still takes a week or 2 before flowering mode kicks in so in a sense its still growing i have never topped when flipping but i surely crop the hell out of my girls till first signs

Dr, your scrogging for height and canopy, which is ok. When you top the apical meristem stops and your axial branches go out. On a small bubba that's never been topped, the axial branches are gonna shoot out and go straight upwards, making a bigger stick so to speak. So when u super crop /lst plus top your plant fills in nicely with more tops. With a stretchier plant like 707 it's almost mandatory to train her down cause she is a bit lanky and needs support, so scrogging, supercrop, lst are ways to harness the plants natural tendencies to maximize potential. This is all strain dependent on how to do each strain, soall we can do is provide you with the information and let u use it to best suit the strains needs.

Dr, you've got that strain under control and she's digging it. Only thing I've noticed about snapping branches is that the buds on that branch do take a slight bit longer to finish but are consistently big as any others. Double edged sword but I'm cool with waiting a few days when ur looking at 3+ months from clone to my pipe.
