Laptops AUDIO is gone!

It just disappeared one day. :cuss:
I checked all the settings and everything that gotta be checked is. Basically everything is the same it was before just the audio is gone.

However I once heard something coming out of the built in speakers so it can't be the audio card gone bad.

Any suggestion what to do?

What ever you suggest...please keep in mind I am not a computer buff. (I know my way around but only "so far") ;)

:thank you:

reinstall the audio drivers or restore the laptop to a previuos date, Make sure the volume is not muted. you should have a small speaker in the try if its got a red line or x its muted

Already tried the restoring, a message popped up telling windows cannot restore the system...
Nothing is muted and headset won't work neither.

I would like to try reinstalling the audio driver, how EXACTLY do I proceed with that?

No problem all you need to do is find out what audio chip is in your laptop to do that go to system info this will tell you the vendor like Nvidia and the model like m220. When you get this info go the the vendors site and look in the download drivers. Enter your model and download the newest driver they have for your model

go to youtube and play a video. Use the sound control on the video itself to turn up the volume and see if that does it. Make sure your comp's is turned up before you turn up the video volume control.

Sometimes the volume is just turned down on your video player.

Also check the mute button to see if that is on.

Well I deleted the audio driver and it was saying windows update will catch that and update it to the new one.

I should have expected it won't do that lol

So now I am f'ing around trying to fix that.

ya dont believe what microsoft says. The audio driver is not from microbugsoft. Normally if you do that it requires a reboot. You should be able to find it. If you can give me some more details like model and make of the audio chip I can find it for ya.

ALSO IF YOU d/l POWER SUIT 2011. I can send you the activation code. It has a proram that will update all your drivers that you want to update.

Have you tried to restore your system using the System Tool?
You can do it if you have created Restore Points, if you choose a date before the deletion of the sounds drivers sometimes they reappear just like magic.
Beware if you are not going to loose info or important settings with the System Restore.

Take the scary small laptop size out of the equation and what you have is onboard audio off the motherboard and when that stop working after your sure drivers are correct (go into device manager and make sure there are no yellow question marks) and no stupid mute button is checked. There are two places to check obviously in the main place called volume under your start menu, there also may be a secondary "equalizer" like program that could be muted as well. Best way to check for this is too go under your control panel and look for anything that looks audio related they got some weird names sometimes! If those aren't muted and your driver is installed you have a dead audio port. I wouldn't recommend formatting or anything - never in a decade of pc work has some random virus or malware damaged audio ports for me, so it'd have to be hardware failure in that case if its not under warranty you can purchase an pcmcia express audio card that goes in those little credit card slots that look like giant SD card places.

what about system sounds??? cliks and beeps when stuff happens. Type system sounds in the search programs and files. Highlight a sound a click test. If you here a sound driver is fine.

Im using win7 so yours might be differant. I have 2 places to mute one is for speakers and one os for system sounds I can mute one or both. right now I have system sounds muted.

Go to device manager, find your audio in the listings and delete it. Then you can either reboot or click the one that says scan for changes.

If you have installed the incorrect driver it will again install the wrong one. If you can tell me the model # of your system I can tell you the correct one or even link it for you.

If it's a dell go to www.dellsupport.com and enter in your service tab and it will list it for you..

Yes thank you and I did all that as per advice by an IT guy.
It was a straight forward process with the service tag number on the back of this DELL.

Everything is installed correctly, I still cannot hear anything. Seems almost like both built in speakers have gone bad which is very unlikely the case.

It's a true mystery.

I don't know what else to do.

As a matter of fact I don't think anything else is left that can be done.....

hope you didnt spend that 10lbs worth on vacation. cause somebody is getting a new computer LOL

LOL it's not about the $...but about the principle...I cannot let a lousy laptop besiege me!

Although I have to admit it has crossed my mind to just go and get a new one.
