This stuff is meant to be rolled out on the ground and buried under a layer of mulch or gravel. I don't think that it has the strength to work as a potting container without blowing out.

Hadn't considered shadecloth! I like hardware wire better than chickenwire, and it does a much better job of preventing burrowing animals.

Yeah, if this is sitting outside on the ground then 1/2" mesh hardware cloth as a rodent barrier is the ticket.

Ive made different smart pots out of felt and i found that they dont water as well. Since the material is more porous, it tends to run out the material instead of penetrating the media. And after time and labor its a draw.

What purpose do the landscaping fabric have? Why do you lay it in before you fill in the soil?

Stops weeds from growing up through the fabric. Use it in planters with flowers and such, put it down cover with mulch and no weeds grow up through it.

i'm going to try rooting some cuts direct into some of the smaller sizes filled with pro-mix hp, see if they make a nice jumbo sized diy jiffy..
