Kush outdoors in BC?

Anyone try any of the Kush strains outdoors in southern BC?

I have Purple K and the OG. A friend wants to put a bunch outside. I said I'd see what I can find out.

Canada dont get good growing weather

Parts of BC have excellent growing conditions and lots of remote geography. Most winters, snow is rare in the Lower Mainland which means fall stays plenty warm. Rain and dew become a problem but there is no shortage of strains bred for that. The Dutch grow incredible weed outdoors and that's pretty much identical to BC's south coast.

Look where Kush comes from. High altitude mountains with similar conditions. The seed companies have done well using strains like that as their breeding blocks to climatize strains to grow in all kinds of conditions.

Many of the pure Sativas are not ideal for Canada but Indica dominate strains do excellent here.

If you saw some of the outdoor ops and top notch product that I have out of our province you, would change your opinion I'm sure. I myself have grown some incredible outdoor here all trimmed by the end of Sept. Cops have never found any of my patches. Wish I could say the same for the thieves. :badday:

I live in a colder higher climate than BC area talked about above. We can get frost in September. Woulld Hindu Kush work for colder areas? Any others anyone has excperience with in colder climates?

I will assume it can handle the frost better than most being from the high mountains in the Hindu/Kush region.

A lot of the risk is not necessarily frost but rot. Fall rains and morning dew can be deadly for your plants if you don't have wind or a breeze to dry them off. Often sun after rain/dew does not help as much as wind to get it out of the inside.

I'm mostly concerned about when these strains finish in my area, 49.0-50.0 N?

I have serious doubts og and pk are actually from the hindu kush and the hindu kush are at a much lower latitude than holland and bc. Pk and OG are fully acclimated indoor strains and are at best hybrids made with landrace indicas from the hindu kush region. Just as a reference kandahar is at 31.37N. I believe Vancouver and Amsterdam are closer to 50N. In fact the light cycle of Kandahar is close to South Africa. I also have to disagree about holland producing top quality outdoor. The standard dutch outdoor lines are very disappointing. They have no altitude, high latitude, high humidity and weak sunlight/uvb. I'm not knocking BC outdoor some of the better parts of BC seem like they'd grow some much better herb than holland.

the kushes (cali) have the potential to finish in BC, no doubt.. But mother nature and your location in the province of BC (remember, it's bigger than most european countries) will make the biggest difference..

I have no doubt Bubba and any of the OGKs could be done outside here, especialy in the okanogan (where a majority of our orchards and wine making takes places), let alone in the osoyoos area (BC's desert region)..

the biggest hurdle is the humidity/rain, and lack of light due to cloud coverage.. But on a good yr it could easily be done..

Heck, I'm no where near the best part of BC, but my backyard will be fully of Bubba, PAKIs, and perhaps some OGKs this year.. the OGKs may take a bit long for a perfect grow, but i still think it can be done..

If you're in BC, and doin' Bubba, or one of the cabbage plants like PAKI or DC, I suggest you get her in the area with the best circulation, and plan on doing some pruning to reduces the plant's ability to hold water tight to the buds...

i'll report back on my results..

I suppose I should of said some incredible outdoor strains come out of Holland. The strains they claim are good in their climate usually do really well on coastal BC. I know this first hand. I've grown them from just outside of Van to the Shuswap to the Cariboo.

You very well may be right about these Kush strains being acclimated to indoors and that being be a factor. I've had a few 7 week indoor strains not able to finish in time outdoors before the horrible weather arrived.

This is basically what I'm trying to find out.

I'm not growing outdoors and where I live now I wouldn't do anything but a green house because summer is measured in weeks not months. I'm not around to keep an eye on it neither.

My friend has an opportunity to put a bunch out on a farm in good grow country but with little time to track down some proven outdoor strains. I have loads of Kush but he don't want to waste his effort if we don't know how and when the results will be.
