Kelp...

Does it matter which brand I buy? I've noticed a lot of people seem to like MaxiCrop, seems like a solid choice. I could save myself a few bucks if I buy Algamin Kelp Meal, though. Any opinions?

Algamin Kelp Meal is made by MaxiCrop. They are equally good but each has its own benefits as one is liquid and the other powdered. Get Both and save yourself any hassle.

Thanks for all the replies everyone

I'm gonna go with Algamin. It'll save me a few bucks and I can get it locally.

Peace :rasta:

Yelm Worm Farm has a soluble seaweed extract/powder that is just like the maxi crop and is 12.95 + shipping for a pound. I also know of a source for some crazy stuff I have been testing for a shop. It comes out at 400ppm Kienetins/Cytokins(sp?). Does crazy things to the growth rate and increases branching like crazy. The shop that has it can't sell it yet because they buy in bulk and re-bottle and have not registered it yet. Yelm Worm Farm has a on-line store and is chill as they are in Washington state. Lots of great organic stuff to. The best worm castings I've ever found!

is seaweed powder anything different than seaweed ground into a powder? why would it be any better?

I've been using a product thats a combination of earthworm castings and fossilized kelp. Seems to be pretty good so I throttled back on my use of liquid karma.

MaxiCrop powder is Norwegian sea kelp extract though, not just powdered seaweed. But it only takes 1 teaspoon to make a gallon of the solution, which is almost black after you mix it. You could get at least 200 gallons from just the small $10 bottle

Kelp MEAL is usually about 1-0-2 and is best mixed into soil before planting. 1-2 Tbl/gal soil. Long term availability (4+ months). Can be used to brew a tea, but most folks prefer liquid or powder concentrate for fertigation applications. Blood/bone/kelp meals together are excellent NPK source when mixed into soil and allowed to "cook" 2+ weeks before planting.

LIQUID kelp concentrate is usually (but not always) less than 1-0-2 when diluted in water. 1-2 Tbl/gal water. Immediately available. Excellent veg fert when mixed with AK Fish 5-1-1. (1-2 tsp molasses/gal water will help kill the fish smell.)

Maxicrop concentrated wettable POWDER is 1-0-4. 1/4 -1/2 teaspoon/gal water and has long shelf life. Immediately available. (10.8 oz powder will make the same amount of ferts that 1 gal of liquid concentrate makes..)

All are derived from seaweed. Many commercial dry ferts contain kelp meal. The wettable powder is the most economical. Suggest you start with lower recommended dose about once per week. Many cabinet growers discontinue use after 12/12 stretch. Be careful using on seedlings less than 3-4 weeks old. (Very diluted is ok and beneficial.) Using at same time with SuperThrive or ThriveAlive can be overkill.

Neptunes Harvest is a popular fish and/or kelp fert, if you prefer liquid. They make a combo fish/kelp in one bottle. I use Maxicrop 1-0-4 powder and Alaska deodorized fish 5-1-1. Hope this helps.

ya really think so?

I used to think $25 for a bag of FoxFarms soil was a foolish waste of money.

I always have the very best stash and have adopted a new reality - "cannabis economics"

It's like $15 for a paper sack filled with indonesian bat crap. it's quite a lot of money for a bag of crap - hell I have a couple dogs and pick up the yard regurarly - I can get a bigger bag of crap - for FREE.

BUT,,,,

Wouldn't work as well, and that guy in Indonesia that hauls the bat crap to market needs new shoes - so I will pay, probably more that I want to, but it's only a waste if it dosen't inprove the garden, otherwise it's an investment.

Budz will get you thru times of no money, better than money, will get you through times of no budz.
