Keeping many mothers for a longer period?

hey.
As the title says, does anyone have any info to share about keeping several mothers for a longer period of time?

I have like 8-10 different mothers, that I would like to keep. (several plants of each)

I was thinking of having them in smaller bucket with DWC, but the smaller the bucket, the harder it gets to regulate. And I would like to keep each strain in its own bucket..

Soil could also be and opportunity.. Having them in bigger buckets, like 6Liters or such..

So does anyone have any info/experience on how to keep lots of mothers in good condition?

Peace and thanks!!

Dragon, I keep my mothers in soil under floros. Just keep them trimmed back then let them pop shoots a few weeks before needing clones. I keep mine in one gal pots. I like to replace them when they get unruly.

heya.
it has taken me some time to get back to you guys..

This is how it looks atm:

Motherplants in soil. The plan is to keep this as a "bank" were I keep my mothers alive, in case something happens with the mother plants in hydro.

The mother plants for the larger number of clones will be here:

I plan on making something like a DWC with around 4-5 mothers, so I can take around 40 clones of each strain for my hydro system..

It sure took some time, but I think i have found out how it is going to be.. :)

peace

Do an internet search for "Bonsai Mums" by Ot1

You already have a setup there that will work. Supermanlives has the basics of it, all you need to add is the pruning method that Ot1 recommends.

I see you raising your light a tiny bit, at least until you make new 'shorter' mums to take the place of the current ones. You'll be able to take 20-30 cuttings off of your mums in a few months... all without having really large and unwieldy plants. :D

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:

I keep mine in one gal geo and smart pots that way i dont have to mess with the root pruning just remember to flush them with something like flora kleen to eat up the salt build up aand a sensi zym or something to eat up to dead root matter and u ccan keep them for years

There's definitely a bonsai mom thread here on ic that direct quotes OT's old method. Soil with fluros is your best bet for slow controlled growth. My suggestion would be organic soil, but I know many love their synthetics. My logic behind using organics for long term moms is you can custom build the soil to be lower in nutrients to tame in growth, and you won't have to worry about salt built up in a small soil container. Slow, steady, and healthy wins the race.

You might look into the 12/1 schedule, it's 12 hours on, 4.5 off, 1 hour on to disrupt the build up of flowering hormones and keep the plant in veg. The result is a diminished growth rate because you're only growing under 12 hours light.
